Subject: RE: Moffat Rammy April 3-5, 2026 From: GUEST,Jack Campin Date: 07 Apr 26 - 07:54 AM I went and I was really disappointed. Far fewer musicians turned up than in previous years (clash with Easter and Storm Dave may have had something to do with it). There was one session that had its moments, but mostly it was a choice between numbingly soporific Americana singer-songwriter stuff and a bar full of shouty drunks with people doing the sort of music shouty drunks want. I tried, but the Sheffield sessions festival would have been a much better bet. And the Edinburgh session I went to when I got home on Sunday evening had far more life and variety. It has great potential, as Moffat has all the facilities you'd want for a small festival. I was imagining that (given better weather) the pedalo pond would be perfect for a waterborne session of boat-related music. Next time: do something specific to get instrumentalists there in force. Riddell Fiddles aren't far away, offer them a venue. Tell the accordion and fiddle clubs about it. |

Subject: RE: Moffat Rammy April 3-5, 2026 From: cujimmy Date: 07 Apr 26 - 10:20 AM I thoroughly enjoyed the Rammy, Thursday evening was the normally session that happens every Thursday in the Proudfoot Club, the venue was full and a variety of songs and tunes were played. This was my 4th Rammy so I met people I knew from last few years. I sang unaccompanied folk songs which I felt were appreciated. Friday evening as you mentioned Jack was a bit noisy with some people just talking rather than listening, so I a few without my finger picking guitar as I thought it wasn't loud enough and would get drowned out. But when I sang The Isle of Innisfree unaccompanied again the room quietened down enough and I felt people were respectfully, so I was quite pleased. A few other people sang similar style, but there were Americana songs and Pop songs sung by other people, which I don't have a problem with. I managed to sing The Highland Clearances by Jim McClean finger picking and and people once again quietened a bit and some people joined in which was nice. So I enjoyed Friday evening it was lovely. Then Saturday I went into the back room where we had a lovely sing around learning a few new songs during a thoroughly enjoyable evening Sunday evening - a lot of people had gone home by this time, but there were still enough of us to have a nice wee session in the club before we hugged, shook hands and finished up. The Rammy wasn't as busy as last year, and was a bit different, but that happens everywhere I would think, but definitely worth booking up for and looking forward to next year. A Special Thanks also To Ian and the other organisers for all their efforts, and the gentleman and the lass behind the bar for keeping us going with bevvy all weekend. |
