Subject: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: Mrrzy Date: 09 Sep 00 - 10:29 AM Hi, I was working on a work-related file at home, and when I got it back to work, the virus-checker caught something that I had apparently picked up on my home machine. So I am emailing everybody and putting this message up, especially to anyone I might have PM'd or sent a file to recently. Run a check, just in case. No idea which virus, like an idiot I let it clean it without writing down what it was, sorry. But it doesn't appear to be highly symptomatic, nothing had been strange before the checker caught whatever it was. When I get the new virus checker from work to take home, I'll write down what it says it catches, if anything, so I can update this post. |

Subject: RE: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: Susan of DT Date: 09 Sep 00 - 07:47 PM The virus at work this week had an attachment called "Life Stages" or something similar. They had warned us about one with "funny" in the title. One thin I noticed was that the e-mail had no names in either "to" or "copy" |

Subject: RE: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: SINSULL Date: 09 Sep 00 - 08:52 PM Believe it or not, we are still getting leftovers from the "love bug" appearing. We updated out anti-virus programs and it all gets screened out with a warning. |

Subject: RE: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: Mrrzy Date: 10 Sep 00 - 02:23 PM OK, back up and certified clean, for what that's worth - it was W97M.class, which had infected my 2001 catalog creation file, and cleaning it turned it into gibberish. Guess no work this weekend, quelle dommage. It had also gotten to my normal.dot and my recycle bin, but apparently the worst thing it does is occasionally tell a Word user they're a jerk, or mysteriously open and close (but not alter) Word files. Can't really argue with it, I guess, since I only use Microsoft if I have to... |

Subject: RE: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: Liz the Squeak Date: 10 Sep 00 - 05:43 PM Life stages has been here in the UK. Luckily it was caught before it went too far, but only because we have had severe restrictions put on external e-mailing, both sending and receiving. There was another one at the same time, but the name escapes me. When you have over 4,000 names on your internal mail system, it's time to worry..... LTS |

Subject: RE: Virus Warning From The Ignorant From: paddymac Date: 10 Sep 00 - 07:21 PM I just had a bout with "WScriptKakWorm". It came in an attachment forwarded from an unsuspecting friend with the subject line message "Bank On It". This particular worm has been around since Dec '99 and my e-mail auto-protect caught it and quarantined it, but I had to do some clean-up stuff on the e-mail system. You can find more info on this beast at |
