Last night William Pint and Felicia Dale performed in the Curtis Room at the Chocolate Church Arts Center. It has been a few years since they were there and their style and wit made for an excellant evening.

If you have not enjoyed one of their performances you are in for a treat. Bill plays guitar with an extraordary amount of energy and skill. Felicia plays hurdy gurdy and whistles. Their songs are largely of the sea and seafaring but also include modern songs and ancient songs of medieval and rennaissance origin.

They have a knack of taking a traditional song and adding a twist, tempo, and/or harmony which makes it a song all their own. The hurdy gurdy adds a sometime ethereal, sometimes upbeat dancing quality.

They had with them their Senegal Parrot, Ranzo, who threatened to steal the show. He was banished to an adjoining room from which he could see his persons and call to them on occasion. The audience members were very taken with him. You know what they say about kids and animals in show biz.

One couple arrived at the door not knowing what to expect. they had been in town and saw the commotion and wandered in. They hemmed and hawed about staying for the concert. At $10 a ticket they were having distinct second thoughts. We invited them to stay through the first song and then make up their minds.

Before the first song was over they had written a check for the admission price. At the break the guy spent quite a while talking to William about his guitars and playing styles while the woman spent her time interviewing Ranzo. They both were fascinated by the hurdy gurdy. When they left they informed me that they had totally enjoyed themselves.

All in all it was a great evening.

"If you have not enjoyed one of their performances you are in for a treat." This is the kind of comment that jokes are made out of!

And where in hell is this Chocolate Church? (What denomination might use this as their temple?)

Inquiring minds want to know. Me too.

Yrs, Willie_O

To paraphrase Susan Sarandon, I could easily worship at a Church of Chocolate... not quite what y'all are talking about, unfortunately! Theobromine doesn't have Theo in it for nothing, you know...

If we can have a big rock candy mountain, then a chocolate church is not too big a step.
