The Wine, Wine, Wine thread made me think of one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar....have now forgotten all but the first verse and chorus...

Trivel and drivia: it's credited to "Stick McGhee" somewhere: both Wynonie Harris and Jerry Lee Lewis had hits off it. The term means wine with a whack of whisky (or gin, I guess) thrown in for added potency.Kerouac mentions it in "on the Road", I think. I knew a guy once fond of half-and-half white port and red port, with a shot of Seagram's 7 on top, which still doesn't make me shudder as much as another guy I met once who enjoyed dumping an envelope of salted peanuts into a glass, covering that with Southern Comfort, and topping it with Coke. Mm-mm.

If I'm not mistaken, this song appears on the live-in-the-studio double LP by Jerry Lee Lewis and friends like Rory Gallagher...along with Don't Put No Headstone On My Grave...

The original record was on the Atlantic label, and was by Sticks McGhee and his Buddies.

Thanks, guys! This is one of the way too many hep songs I have just on an old homemade cassette buried in a shoebox somewhere that I keep meaning to dig out and ask about. Very glad to see the question and grateful for the info. Cool!
