I used to have Barry Dransfield's solo album that had this song on it. I understand it has been included on the Dransfields compilation album "Up To Now" and I would appreciate it if someone could tell me who wrote the song.

I couldn't find anything that said Barry didn't write it. One review said it is a "contemporary" song. Looks to me like Barry wrote it, but that is just a guess.

You may be right, but I have a vague recollection it was written by a member of one of the major groups of the time (Moddy Blues? Pink Floyd? something like that)

Nope. Barry himself wrote it, and it (along with title credit) is on the compilation double CD "Up To Now", put out by Free Reed. Great song.
