I just stumbled upon a great site which gives links to archived music wav files. This has to be illegal and may not last, but it sure is nice to hear such recordings.

I was looking for sound samples of Sousa marches and searched on Google for Sousa, radio, archive....and found this site with a tremendous variety of links to full wav recordings. I checked out 5 sites and only one had buffering which interrupted my listening.

Here it is:

Not wav files only, I think. I went to a few of those sites. Listened to some great Django & Grapelli in Realaudio and listening now to a Stanley Bros tune (Clinch Mountain Blues) in MP3 format. I didn't encounter any actual wav files yet, tho'.

Thanks for the link, Mary. I'll check out a few more of those sites later.

hmmmmmm...I thought RealAudio was wav...anyway, I listened to mostly RealAudio sites. They were actual recordings, and I had very little buffering.

RealAudio is sort-of a wav file. But it is it's own format and is streaming.

But I followed a link from the page you provided to the DoveSong site. that provides free downloads of MP3s made from old singles. If you follow some of the links you can find old pop songs from the 40s and 50s. Also some Stanley Brothers (got their version of "Man of Constant sorrow" there) and some Carter Family and Bill Monroe. Listening now to Bob wills' "Take Me Back to Tulsa". What a cool site! Thanks again!

I also found this link [http://music.mpr.org/features/0208_worldchoral/]to the World Choral Spectacular at Minnesota Public Radio.

It seems that a lot of radio stations have archived programs, but this is the first time I thought to search using the words radio and archive. Jon, Ed and John have been influencing me to listen to the BBC online, and I love the archived programs there.

Thank you for the gorgeous reference to World Choral Spectacular, Mary. I certainly wish more choral music was presented on NYC radio.
