Subject: Origins: All the pretty little horses From: GUEST,molly Date: 15 Mar 04 - 03:45 PM I was wondering about the history of this song...as in a year. I'm in a play and it requires a lullaby. The play is set in the 1600's. Something puritan would be best, but I can't seem to find anything. any suggestions? |

Subject: Kyr Add: Golden Sklumbers From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 15 Mar 04 - 05:36 PM How about using "Golden Slumbers" - written by Thomas Dekker whose dates were 1575–1641 (subsequently borrowed from by Paul McCartney), so the period would be right: GOLDEN slumbers kiss your eyes, Smiles awake you when you rise. Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby; Rock them, rock them, lullaby. Care is heavy, therefore sleep you; You are care, and care must keep you. Sleep pretty wantons, do not cry, And I will sing a lullaby; Rock them, rock them, lullaby. Mind you, Dekker might not have been too approved of, in a puritan household, since he wrote plays, and they were a bit Talibanesque about things like that. But maybe a lullaby woudl be acceptable? All depends how bigotted they are in the play you're doing... |

Subject: RE: Origins: All the pretty little horses From: SINSULL Date: 16 Mar 04 - 06:51 PM I just read "All The Pretty Horses". Strange coming of age type book. I can't say I liked it but the characters keep disturbing my thoughts. Very strange.
