Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Watchman tis a dreadful night From: Dave'sWife Date: 20 Apr 05 - 07:14 PM Well, I'm stumped, but then Sea Songs are not my forte. I know the line '..Where a dreadful storm it did arise.." from The Bay of Biscay and then there are a few songs with "dreadful night' but they aren't the one to which you refer. I'm sure there are others here who are far wiser than I and will know which song it is. |

Subject: Lyr Add: THE PILOT ON THE DEEP (T. H. Bayley) From: Jim Dixon Date: 23 Apr 05 - 12:17 AM From the Levy site (see link above). THE PILOT ON THE DEEP Thomas Haynes Bayley, no date. 1. Oh, Pilot, 'tis a fearful night. There's danger on the deep. I'll come and pace the deck with thee. I do not dare to sleep. Go down, the sailor cried, go down. This is no place for thee. Fear not, but trust in Providence, wherever thou may'st be. TRIO: Fear not, but trust in Providence, wherever thou may'st be. 2. Ah, Pilot, dangers often met we all are apt to slight, And thou has known these raging waves but to subdue their might. It is not apathy, he cried, that gives this strength to me. Fear not, but trust in Providence wherever thou may'st be. 3. On such a night the sea engulfed my father's lifeless form. My only brother's boat went down in just so wild a storm, And such perhaps may be my fate, but still I say to thee: Fear not, but trust in Providence wherever thou may'st be. |
