Subject: The Mainstream Press covers my open mic! From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 20 Sep 06 - 12:06 AM The Capitol Times, the evening, daily newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin, just published an article about the open mic that I've been helping to run for the past few years. We're all very proud of this. The mainstream press doesn't usually cover this sort of event (too mundane and small). There's a blue clicky to the article below. http://www.madison.com/tct/features/index.php?ntid=99406&ntpid=0 Be well. Stephen Lee Rich |

Subject: RE: The Mainstream Press covers my open mic! From: Big Al Whittle Date: 20 Sep 06 - 08:17 AM Brilliant! Well done Steve! Well done America! I get flabbergated the number of times I hear our American cousins say - well WE haven't got folk clubs like you have - like the Ford foundation set them up or something. We think our scene in England is pretty crap, you will soon outdo us, no trouble! |

Subject: RE: The Mainstream Press covers my open mic! From: leeneia Date: 20 Sep 06 - 08:19 AM Congratulations. I believe that newspapers are eventually going to realize that it is good business to pay attention to what's going on their hometowns. TV and the Internet cover the big picture. Who else is going to cover what's right at hand? |

Subject: RE: The Mainstream Press covers my open mic! From: Stephen L. Rich Date: 20 Sep 06 - 02:06 PM Thanks, all. Grab, that is the perfect link. Thank you. leeneia, it's up to all of us to make sure that the local media KNOWS what's going on in our own back yards. News gatherers tend to be looking outward rather than inward in thier search for the newsworthy. As a result they frequently miss what is going on under thier noses. weelittledrummer, judging by the posts and threads I've seen here, I'm certain that the UK's folk community is in no danger. I'm certain that, there, as here, one has to do a bit of searching and digging to find other folkies. But once you find them... Stephen Lee |
