If you look after the name of a person who posted, i.e. Mark Cohen, you will find PM. Click on that and it will post a personal message to that person, like this one I am sending you, and will show up as a red notice at the top of the page saying that you have one message.

I will do this with this mail, and also post it to the thread about Mary Benson's stroke, since it looks like you didn't realize you were posting a personal message in a thread about Mary.

Valentine, I would PM Barbara for updated info.
I know that Mary is living in an assisted living facility in SE Portland, and I can look up its new name. (It's a new facility in a renovated building formerly occupied by a nursing home, but I don't know the name offhand.)
I'll try to find it, but I'm pretty sure Barbara has the contact info handy. David Ingerson probably does too.

I looked up some assisted living and nursing homes in Portland, and I think this is the one you want. Worth a try, anyway.

I think that is where she was but is no longer. She is now in a studio...I don't know if it is associated with a care center or not. I know she really looks forward to having guests, and is able to get out and about some. Her speech as of a couple of weeks ago was still not doing so well, but otherwise poeple say she is doing very well...mg

She's moved to stay with her sister in Spokane. My understanding is that she will be back in Portland when her insurance kicks in. I have some friends I can ask as to how she's doing. I'll get back to you when I hear.

Here's an update on Mary Benson (sorry it's taken so long). The most relevant thing is that Mary now has an active email account and a new email (as well as physical) address. She can be reached by email at   syren1644, which is at gmail, including the dot com, of course. Sorry for the coded address but we really don't want spam coming her way. She's now living at Van Vista, an assisted living facility, at 410 W 13th St., Vancouver, WA 98660.

She sings only occasionally now (largely because of her aphasia which interferes with word production) but still enjoys it immensely. She can hold and enjoys moderately simple (moderately complex?) conversations, loves working on her stitchery--amazing quilts among other projects--and listening to music. She gets around with the aid of a walker because of a painful knee which is scheduled to be replaced in about ten days! She's hoping to eventually ditch the walker. She has difficulty handling her new computer but will have help and would love to hear from her long-lost friends and acquaintances. With help, she'll respond! Looking forward to increased communication!

Mary is now in Salmon Creek Post Acute and Rehab in Vancouver, Wash, recovering from a knee replacement, which went well. The plan is for her to rehab for about 12 days before returning to her apartment at Van Vista (see above).

Although she has not been active in the music world for 18 years now, she'd love to re-establish connections she once had, so spread the word to anyone who might have known her (in the maritime and British Isles singing communities).
