Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Fesitval 2009 From: VirginiaTam Date: 28 Jun 09 - 05:55 AM Well I had fun last night at the Peter Boat sing around. Formally introduced myself to the couple from Acorn Folk Club in Minehead, Exmoor. All the performers were great. Thanks to Tony for organising. I love that There's Another Train song. |
Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Festival - 24th - 28th June 2009 From: GUEST,LDT Date: 29 Jun 09 - 04:16 AM I had a great time sat and sun. Went to my first ever session on Sunday afternoon...billed as slow but I would have called it medium fast..but then i've only been learning melodeon 2 and a bit months. Managed to get 70% of most of the tunes. I was suprised on the saturday by the amount of enjoyable performances...it was hard to choose when to go for lunch....next time I'm bringing a picnic I think. The sunday was good too...managed to see Faustus (and hour late coz of everything moving up but worth the wait). Now just got to rest my tired legs....from all that standing. |

Anyway you're obviously in Essex like me. Like you, I'm fairly new at this traditional music lark. I sing folk songs, and would quite like to meet up with one or two younger(ish!) amateur instrumentalist/s locally. If you fancy meeting up sometime and maybe playing & singing together, PM me - I can't PM you, 'cos you're not a member. |

Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Festival - 24th - 28th June 2009 From: VirginiaTam Date: 29 Jun 09 - 01:37 PM breezy - see this post Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Fesitval 2009 From: VirginiaTam - PM Date: 11 May 09 - 09:06 AM Had the reply from person responsible for booking acts at Leigh Festival. Eric Bogle and John Munro have pulled out of the festival. No reason given as to why. Perhaps double booking on that day was an accident that could not be resolved...... and this Eric is doing 'The Hoy at Anchor Folk Club' at the Ship in Leigh on Sea on 14th. July. They probably changed the date. Check here:- http://www.ridgeweb.co.uk/hoy_diary.htm |
Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Festival - 24th - 28th June 2009 From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Jun 09 - 02:03 PM Hey LDT, I did put up a MySpace a while back, but pulled it because the sound was pants! I might give it another go though - and if I do I'll link it to this thread. But otherwise I've been singing Traditional English Folk Songs for the most part - but the odd Irish or Scottish song too: I've been singing songs like "Bushes and Briars", "John Barleycorn", "The Unquiet Grave", "Death and the Lady", "The Great Selkie", "Wille the Waterboy" etc.. Just fielding for interest really as I don't know any folk instrumentalists in Essex and I'd like to get to know a few folk musicians in the area - not fr anything really serious. Hopefully to *eventually* play in local clubs with, but initially just to have a bit of a bash with really! |
Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Festival - 24th - 28th June 2009 From: The Barden of England Date: 29 Jun 09 - 02:14 PM Just to let you all know - and a blatant bit of self publicity (but ask Virginia Tam and Crow Sister about me) I'm doing a House Concert in Frinton on Sea on Saturday 18th July and it would be good to see some of you there. Tam and Crow Sister - you would have loved Aylesford - we had a Knockholt style singaround on both Friday and Saturday nights - no fire but it was warm. John Barden |
Subject: RE: Leigh Folk Festival - 24th - 28th June 2009 From: VirginiaTam Date: 29 Jun 09 - 02:29 PM Hi John At the Wake at Val's (god that seems ages ago) Billybob did invite me to her do in Frinton at which you will be performing. But we will be in Scotland. Looks like we won't be seeing the Kent crowd until September Good Intent Beer Festival or Knockholt (whichever comes first). Hope you and Jan have a wonderful summer. Love from Tam |
