I used to drive my mother crazy when I was little by singing all the jingles for most every product while we were grocery shopping. A couple of years ago I was discussing jingles with my nephew, who was 32, and asked him some of his earliest jingle memories. He remembered one from when he was a toddler & cable TV was new, the Chicago Empire Carpet jingle:

five eight eight, two three hundred, Empiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire.

Then he picked up the phone & called them. They were some financial company & get occasional calls from people all over the country who remember the jingle.

The Muriel cigar commercial is coming back to me.
From googling it, I learned that it was Edie Adams who crooned the Muriel cigar jingles for 18 years. (I didn't know her name at the time I saw the commercials). One jingle was a parody of "Hey, Big Spender" from "Sweet Charity."

But the one I remember started out,
"I'm today's new muriel, the fine cigar
(something something something something something) by far.
(Can't recall the next line.)
"Why dontcha pick me up an' smoke me sometime."

But as I recall it, it was done as a voice over for a cartoon (female) cigar clad in a sort of "harem" outfit.

According to a post at this website this takeoff on Mae West was banned as too risqué for TV at the time.

Clueless Don, I think they may be verses from the same Pepsi jingle--it did go on. Actually, the first four lines I quoted were the bridge. Some popular singer of the time--it might have been Eydie Gorme--sang it at least once. I was a kid then, and it still rattles in my head!

and the last line was

Tarheel remembers miller,(highlife!)...miller, (highlife!) the champaign of bottled beer!!! So do we. But, in the early 1960s, Bev worked on a market research project for Miller Brewing. A lot of respondents said we didn't drink Miller because it's way too expensive. Actually, it cost no more than other beers but the words "highlife" and "champagne" were giving the wrong impression.

They immediately changed their whole advertising approach and started showing people on TV drinking Miller beer at barbeques and bowling alleys, and dressed in work or very casual clothes. They changed their jingle to

When it's time to relax,

One beer stands clear. (beer after beer)

Well if you've got the time,

We've got the beer (Miller beer.)

Which is what Night Wing remembers.

I used to love listening to the commercial as a small kid and even now I still hum it to myself as it reminds me of Christmases past. I think the commercial aired on the radio around 1964 to 1966.

Would you have any idea how one could get a copy of that commercial?

I'm constantly amazed at the Internet and its uses. A friend and I thinking about the Reingold Jingle because my grandfather and uncle owned a bar in upper Manhattan. I used to see the pictures of the Reingold Girls in there strung up across the bar, and people would vote on them for the best looking one. (I wonder who looked better after 2 beers!) Anyway, I remember the song so vividly but couldn't get the second line. Thanks Cool Beans for setting it straight...I simply put in Reingold Beer Jingle in the search and voila! 21st Century technology and the record is straight! LOL Thanks, Camie

Another venerable old Milwaukee brewer was Schlitz. When I was in the seminary in Milwaukee, they would pay seminarians union scale to work summer jobs - and they could get all the beer they could drink.
But I chose to work at a summer camp.
