Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Brian Hoskin Date: 20 Apr 01 - 08:17 AM I don't think Smarties are Canadian. As far as I'm aware they were first made in England by Rowntrees of York (now sadly part of Nestle). There's reference to this here Brian |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: gnu Date: 20 Apr 01 - 08:25 AM I used to like my coffee crisp. Crispy Crunch... ever try Will-O-Crisps ( sp ? )? mmmmmm. I can't wait for my second childhood. I mean the candy thing. Obviously, I never outgrew my first childhood mentally. |

--gnu But what are they? |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: gnu Date: 20 Apr 01 - 11:53 AM Chocolate bars. Absolutely delicious, as I remember from my childhood. I haven't eaten sweets for years. Will-o-Crisps are not a bar, but are triangular, about 50mm in height, 10mm thick and sold in bulk or by the box. Crispy crunch and W-o-C are close. |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Bert Date: 20 Apr 01 - 12:43 PM Hey gnu, We've not forgotten Dieppe. It's still a sore point amongst many of the allies how they sent those boys to their deaths. We'll never forget them. |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Apr 01 - 01:22 PM Ya.. chocolate bares.. not CANDY bars... I've never had anything more gross that something called a CANDY bar... Crispy Crunch and Coffee Crisp are both wonderful, but I don't think I've ever had Will-o-crisps... I'll keep an eye out for them... ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: mousethief Date: 20 Apr 01 - 02:33 PM Chocolate bares what? Is this a Freudian slip? |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: gnu Date: 20 Apr 01 - 03:16 PM bert... the families of those young Canadian boys who gave their lives at Dieppe thank you. As for the sore point, it is best forgotten by other than military strategists. They were not the only ones sacrificed for victory. Dieppe was Dieppe. Normandy was Normandy. War is war.... Lest we forget. |

Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Apr 01 - 05:40 PM no slip... just a typo... |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: mousethief Date: 20 Apr 01 - 05:45 PM typos can be caused by the id trying to break through the stranglehold the superego keeps on the fingers. |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 Apr 01 - 05:51 PM More psychobabble MT? believe what ever you want... I'll be over here being right! LOL! ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Apr 01 - 07:18 PM Another typo and therefore a life, saved, by the great Zamboni machine!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: lady penelope Date: 21 Apr 01 - 02:45 PM Hockey - wimps version of the celtic game shinty and it was a game in England for a veeeeery long time. Penicilin - A nice scottish man called Mr Flemming discovered and developed what we now know as penicilin. Smarties - How dare you imply my favourite sweetie is a colonial invention! I'm all for people being proud of their birthplace ( or any place they feel like, actually ) but braggarts are boorish and should be limited to audiences of one and a mirror. Other than that, 10/10 for enthusiasm! TTFN MLady P. |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Apr 01 - 03:38 PM Say, I notice y'all are having some real good riots and protests and stuff........Do you want to take credit for inventing that stuff or just again compare yourselves to Seattle? Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: oh Canada!!! From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 21 Apr 01 - 03:50 PM Bert, criticizing the round bat as not being an efficient tool to hit the ball misses the point. It's not SUPPOSED to be easy! And I speak as one who hates baseball, either to play or to watch. DAve Oesterreich |
