Subject: Lyr Req: I am looking for a song. From: GUEST,mrdusty007 Date: 12 May 03 - 12:49 PM I know this song exists because I have it on an old tape that I recorded from the radio. But I don't remember the title. The song starts out with this line: "There once was a silver grey fox of great beauty who lived very deep in the woods." The song is about the fox and an eagle falling in love. Can anyone tell me what the title is? Thanks. |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: Joe Offer Date: 12 May 03 - 01:08 PM Hi, Mr. Dusty - I changed your thread title to something more specific so people will notice it more (we've had lots of threads titled "I am looking for a song"). I hope you can still find it. It might be a good idea to bookmark this page and come back to it every once in a while. I looked for the song, but had no luck with it. -Joe Offer- |

I dont know who sings it but it goes I am the eagle the sweet soaring eagle I've come to take you away. I also recorded it along time ago and have it on a tape. the song means alot to my mother and I. I think the song is sung by red davis or something. |
Subject: RE: Still Looking From: GUEST,daylynn Date: 17 May 04 - 06:00 PM could you post the rest of the song. thanks |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 17 May 04 - 07:22 PM More than one song begins "I am an Eagle," one sung by Eagle Scouts. I don't believe any of them are related to the story of the silver gray fox and the eagle, requested here and partly posted by Jan back in 1998 (the one I would like to get as well). It is not the Aesop fable about the fox and the eagle either. |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,daylynn Date: 18 May 04 - 12:01 AM Actually, yes there is. I just confirmed that a singer of the name Corrections made by a JoeClone. |

Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,daylynn Date: 18 May 04 - 08:19 PM I have been looking all over the internet for anything about him but I have come up with nothing. I know that he sings that song because my mother has it on cassette tape and at the end of the song they announced that the song was sung by Corrections made by a JoeClone. |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,gonzo11 Date: 02 Jul 04 - 12:47 PM Crazy--a memory of a favorite childhood song ("the fox and the eagle" as I remembered it) popped into my head today, so I did a quick internet search to see if I could figure out who sang it, etc. What a surprise to find others looking for the same tune! It's great to have figured out the singer and title...any luck with tracking down a copy? |
Subject: RE: looking for a song: once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,Lawanda Date: 15 Jul 04 - 04:51 PM I have searched the net and found that this sight is the only one that refers to a song I used to sing many years ago, I remember the melody and one verse and the chorus.(the same lyrics everyone else seems to remember. Would really appreciate the lyrics for the complete song if anyone out there can provide them. Thanks. |
Subject: Lyr Add: I AM THE EAGLE (Rhett Davis) From: GUEST,gonzo11 Date: 27 Jul 04 - 06:12 PM My mom pieced together what appears to be nearly all of the song from multiple partial recordings. We're still looking for a complete good quality recording. Here are her transcribed lyrics: I AM THE EAGLE by Rhett Davis There once was a silver grey fox of great beauty, who lived very deep in the wood Afraid of the meadow where life once before had treated her worse than it should. And to think of the mountain beyond the great meadow did surely bring fear to her heart, For she'd heard the stories of all the great hunters and shivered and cried in the dark. Then tired of living a life in dark shadows, the fox ventured out in the light And rejoiced at the sound and the smell of the meadow while keeping her shelter in sight. Then all at once such a fear overcame her as a shadow passed over the sun And as she heard the cry of the great hunting eagle, she knew it was over and done. CHORUS: For I am the eagle, the sweet soaring eagle, I've come to take you away High up the mountains and sparkling blue rivers and show you the place where I stay. Please do not fear me for I will not harm you no matter what others may say. For though it is true that our lives should not mingle, I'm in need of some friendship today. Though she didn't know why, she accepted the offer and reluctantly climbed on his back And the woods and the meadow were left far behind her. It seemed she would never get back. Then the fox sensed a yearning deep within the great eagle and she felt something stirring her too. Could she, a fox, fall in love with the eagle, could he fall in love with her too? Could this eagle be lonely and searching for someone to help him rule his domain? Had he ever had someone to love and protect him and bring him in out of the rain? And the eagle spoke soft and his words were a wonder, in a voice touched with sadness it seemed Even though I must hunt in the name of survival, I need not kill all that I see. CHORUS ENDING WITH TWO EXTRA LINES: I've need of some friendship today I've need of some love today (sung very slowly). |

I'm pretty sure it had a yellow label, but for the life of me, I can't find it anymore. We could all finally rest easy if I could just find that 45. Hehe. Nice to see that I'm not the only one "out there" looking for it. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,lady_x lady_x67@yahoo.com Date: 29 Oct 04 - 09:06 AM Hello ..... smiles..... this is wonderful knowing that someone is familiar with the song ~ and that someone shares the same passion for the song as I. Is it possible that you still have your mother's copy of the cassette around that may be able to be copied. To my knowledge after a search in the Canadian media the name of the artist is Rhett Davis~ he only sang a few songs ..and this one is the only one that seemed to hit air time. I recall hearing the song being played in the mid 70's and would dearly love to have a copy of the music itself. The lyrics are great to have and to read... I hear the music in every ounce of me when I read the words~ it is a challenge to translate that thru to others that do not share the same passion for the glorious song. Please write Daylin...... thank you... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,jim Date: 08 Nov 04 - 10:49 PM I think I have a solution to our searching. I live in Edmonton and I too have been trying to find "I Am The Eagle" by Rhett Davis. I have a line an old LP with this song on it. I still have an old turn table so I can convert it to an audio tape. I have never tried to convert from an audio tape to CD but will give it a try. In the mean time, as soon as I can get the LP I will try to produce a decent Audio tape and if any one is interested you can send me an E Mail with your address I would be happy to send a copy to you. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,Garry in Edmonton Date: 16 Nov 04 - 05:44 PM I recorded this song on tape from CISN radio station one week ago. I have since put it onto a CD, but the very last part was cut off by the radio station as they quite often do. The last words sung that were cut off were " I've need of some love today" the "today" that is sung slowly was the abrupt ending point of the song. Until I can get the complete song this will suffice. I may be able to share this song but would have to be taken with the other 24 songs on the CD. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox From: GUEST,Lisa Date: 26 Nov 04 - 05:35 PM I have been trying to find this song for over twenty years, but I didn't know who sang it or the actual title, and it seemed no one else had ever even heard of it. The last time I heard it was on the radio; I was twelve years old, standing in the kitchen at my aunt's house in Nova Scotia, trying hard to hear the words over the noise my young cousins were making. I no longer live in Canada (I'm in the US) and I'm a long (long) way from twelve, but I would dearly love to have this song somehow. Did someone send them to you? Can you send them to me? I would be happy to buy the recording, but since he only recorded it as a single and never made an album or CD, there is no way to buy this song and the beautiful rendition of it that Rhett Davis did. I'd also like to know who is the author of the lyrics. Gwynn Alcorn |
