Subject: Blues Barber Shop to Close, Wash. D.C.. From: Bobert Date: 25 Jan 08 - 01:16 PM After 4 decades of being the center of the Washington, F.C. acoustic blues scene, Archie Edwards Barber Shop in NE Washington will have its final Saturday jam session tomorrow... Sniff... Yes, this is where I honed my skills as a long time "regular" but since moving don't get up there as much these days... But I'll be there tomorrow, that is for sure... Over the years hundreds of blues players have stopped in for the Saturday jam sessions... The Late John Jackson was a regular many years ago... Mississippi John Hurt was a regular... Phil Wiggins and John Cephas have made regular appearanceas... So tomorrow will be a sad day for the blues ommunity but also a joyous one for the many years we were able to hold off the developers in our little blues utopia... Sniff... Bobert (Sidewalk Bob) |

Subject: RE: Blues Barber Shop to Close, Wash. D.C.. From: Lonesome EJ Date: 25 Jan 08 - 09:27 PM A bunch of the Getaway folks are regular barbershop jammers, and they have often spoken of the sessions with great enthusiasm. Sad to see it end. |
Subject: RE: Blues Barber Shop to Close, Wash. D.C.. From: GutBucketeer Date: 26 Jan 08 - 12:40 AM The Barbershop has been sold, and tomorrow (Saturday) is the last jam there. However, a new (temporary) home has been found for the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation at HR57 on 14th street. So the jams will continue (Yeah), it just won't be the same (Boo). I'll miss the place a LOT Gutbucketeer |
