Subject: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: Folkiedave Date: 09 Feb 08 - 07:49 AM I went to see LNF yesterday evening, with singer/guitarist Findlay Napier replacing Denny Bartley. I confess to being a fan and I know they are not to everyone's taste. For those who are fans I reckon there is more singing with Findlay taking the bulk of the songs and Ciaran doign a couple. Chris was as witty as ever - but with Findlay's baldness an additional target to Nick's pipes and Ciaran's Rotherham background. Do go and see them and I suspect you will not be disappointed. Last night's audience (a sell-out) was mostly not folkies - but were most appreciative. |

Subject: RE: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: GUEST,Tom Bliss Date: 09 Feb 08 - 08:58 AM I shall take the first opportunity Dave. Findley is great in the brilliant Back of the Moon, and Ciaran's already proved a terrific addition - one of the best singers I know, and he's best known for 'knocking up a shed' (as Tom Napper often says when introducing him in the The Idle Road). Denny is irreplaceable, of course - but if anyone had to, then Findley was an inspired choice. I'm looking forward to it enormously. Tom PS. Findley's brother Hamish (also in BOTM) doesn't look much like him - but Aaron Jones, (now seen out with Tom McConville as well as Claire Mann - and also bass in the Old Blind Dogs) could be his twin. How did that happen then? I want to see them both on the same stage! |

Subject: RE: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: Folkiedave Date: 09 Feb 08 - 12:42 PM Tom, You are right about the likeness between Aaron and Findlay - I am afraid Findlay took a bit of stick last night - you can imagine Chris once the subject of hair and combs came up. Chris was not sure if it would work - it clearly is working. Dave |

Subject: RE: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: Jeri Date: 10 Feb 08 - 10:15 AM From their web page, News/Reviews section: "After 15 years without a break, Denny has finally decided that he cannot bear to sit next to Chris any longer and is going to take some time off from the band (well, he told us it was to spend time more time with his babies whilst they were little, but we think anyone deserves a break after all that time!)"They were over here once, and I really enjoyed their music, not to mention their inspirational insanity. |

Subject: RE: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: GUEST,belinda o'hooley Date: 11 Feb 08 - 07:47 AM I can just imagine Chris is in his element with someone new to comment on in his own style...I love Chris's humour but most of all I love his sensitive playing - the way he accompanies others is very generous and subtle. Good luck to you LNF! |

Subject: RE: Review: Last Night's Fun - New Line up From: Folkiedave Date: 11 Feb 08 - 08:12 AM There is definitely no split - I suspect Denny has had to go back to his day job having taken all his holidays for the next fifteen years. "It's the first time I have walked onto a stage without Denny in 15 years" "I knew what Denny was dreaming". Two quotes from Chris on Friday night. A most generous, genuinely funny and talented man. Let me echo Belinda. Good luck. And let's not forget Nick Scott who has also been the butt of Chris's brand of humour for a number of years. Ciaran Boyle answers back bit. |
