Forget the atrocity that is the tv version of Lark Rise to Candleford. ITV3 is repeating the marvellous adaptation of that other classic of country life, Cider with Rosie. Wednesday 20 Feb 22'00 hrs. Vastly superior.

"I remember, I remember" as (I recall) Laurie Lee's Mum saying.

I presume it's not the ancient adaptation from 1971 with Rosie Leach as Mum is it?

There is a fantastic scene at the end of that version where the young actor playing Laurie is walking down a path near Slad, passes this elderly chap walking in the opposite direction and smiles up at him...and the elderly chap is Laurie Lee. Coup de theatre!

No. This is a later adaptation with Juliet Stevenson as Mum.

I just recently (meaning in the past year) finally read the book. I'd read "As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning" years ago.

Enjoyed both. Would love to see the televised productions should they air in the US -- despite the fact that I haven't watched television since 1983 (in the middle of the Masterpiece Theatre "Brideshead Revisited" -- which I didn't get to see in its entirety until years later when my sister gave me the videotapes).

Linn

Have a DVD of the Juliet Stevenson version if anyone wants it.

I've just been listening to BBC Radio 4's Classic Serial version of Cider with Rosie (Part 2), still available on 'Listen Again', with snatches of music by Paul Burgess. Sadly I don't think Part 1 is still available. Maybe they will produce a CD.
