Subject: The Corrs & Irish others From: Howard James, Medowie Australia Date: 14 May 97 - 10:09 AM I have been searching in vain for the music to "Erin Shore", and "Along with the girls", recently recorded by the Corrs. Also, "Ripples in the Rock Pools", "Hand in Hand", "When you and I where young Maggie", "The fields of Athenry", "Carrickfergus", "The Dark Island", and "Belfast Hornpipe". Can you help please? I would certainly appreciate it. Regards Howard James, Medowie, NSW Australia |
Subject: Lyr Add: THE FIELDS OF ATHENRY (Pete St. John) From: RoB Date: 14 May 97 - 10:31 PM THE FIELDS OF ATHENRY (Pete St. John, 1970s) As recorded by Paddy Reilly on "The Fields of Athenry" (2009)
1. By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young girl callin':
CHORUS: Low lie the fields of Athenry
2. By a lonely prison wall, I heard a young man callin':
3. By a lonely harbour wall, she watched the last star fallin' [* Charles Edward Trevelyan (1807-86), a senior British civil servant. As Assistant Secretary to HM Treasury (1840-59), he was responsible for administering relief during the famine, but his "quasi-genocidal anti-Irish racial sentiment" and "strident belief in laissez-faire economics" prevented him from doing a decent job.]
Howard, hope you have the tune to this lovely song. I am posting this now and will follow with "Carrickfergus" in a new posting. |
Subject: Lyr Add: CARRICKFERGUS From: RoB Date: 14 May 97 - 11:01 PM CARRICKFERGUS
I wish I was in Carrickfergus, only for nights in Ballygran.
My childhood days bring back sad reflections of happy times I spent so long ago.
And in Kilkenny it is reported there are marble stones there as black as ink.

Subject: Lyr Add: DARK ISLAND (David Silver, Ian MacLachlan From: Barry Finn Date: 15 May 97 - 06:54 PM There are a couple of Dark Islands; this goes to the slow air (beautiful pipe tune) of the same name.
Away to the westward I'm longing to be
CHORUS: Oh isle of my childhood I'm dreaming of thee
So gentle the sea breeze that ripples the bay.
True gem of the Hebrides bathed in the light

Subject: RE: The Corrs & Irish others From: Alison Date: 21 May 97 - 08:16 AM The tune "Erin's Shore" is more popularly known as "Paddy's green shamrock shore" and should be fairly easy to get hold of, if not let me know. James Galway plays a set of 3 tunes which he calls the "Belfast Hornpipe." I only know the titles of 2 of them although I have the music for all 3. They are "THe boys from Blue Hill", and "Harvest Home", (sometimes called "The Cork Hornpipe." If you need music try "Richard Robinson's tunebook" site. I'm not sure of the address but it should be easy to find if you do a search under "Irish music." Hope this helps. Alison (Sydney NSW) |
