Your responses are sensitive and thought-provoking. I appreciate the time you took to allay my initial shock over some of the song-lyrics. As in all aspects of life, I suppose our reactions vary widely. (The year I was born, my grandparents were walked into the ovens -- likely the reason my tolerance level to some of the lyrics is challenged.) In any case, your explanations are accepted with gratitude. Sing on!

Thanks Target, When I posted my first request here a few weeks back, I was initially reluctant, because my request was to try to find the origins of a song of racial stereotypes that my grandfather sang. As it was a legitimate request on behalf of my mother to trace my grandfathers roots, I have been thinking a lot about the value of all songs on the DT, so I hope I didn't appear too strident in my response.

Susan

Well, I can't resist. I promised I wouldn't, but I just gotta, he's that kind of guy.

Here's to Gargoyle, never short on lack of taste!

Yeah, just ignore that please. Gargoyle's specialty is making _everybody_ uncomfortable, don't ask me why. He's got an axe to grind or something, but you're not being singled out here, lots of folks are recipients of his dubious attentions. Better ignored.

Please stick around, "(not) A Target" almost everyone that posts here is interesting and polite.

I don't know, Target--Gargoyle sometimes expresses himself crudely--but the song at the end of the link is Bob Dylan's "God on Our Side," which is certainly not taking the side of the Germans. I think he was actually trying to be helpful.

I read the words of "God on Our Side". I agree, seed and gargoyle ... this is not an insult. It's actually profound poetry!

Thank you for your responses.
