Subject: MUSIC IN MY MOTHERS HOUSE From: DAVE G. Date: 17 Jan 00 - 09:52 PM I AM LOOKING FOR THE WORDS AND NAME OF WRITER FOR THE SONG, MUSIC IN MY MOTHERS HOUSE, AT LEAST I THINK THAT IS THE NAME OF THE SONG |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MUSIC IN MY MOTHERS HOUSE From: bflat Date: 17 Jan 00 - 10:00 PM Dave, I believe you will find what you are looking for in the liner for the CD: This Train Still Runs; Artists: Holly Near and Ronnie Gilbert. It came out in 1996. The title of the song I'm thinking of is: There Was Music In My Mother's House. |
Subject: Lyr Add: MUSIC IN MY MOTHER'S HOUSE (Stuart Stotts From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Jan 00 - 02:30 AM Yeah, it's a great song, and Holly Near and Ronnie Gilbert did a great job of it. -Joe Offer- MUSIC IN MY MOTHER'S HOUSE (© 1985, Stuart Stotts BMI) There were windchimes in the window, bells inside the clock An organ in the corner, tunes in the music box We sang while we were cooking, or working in the yard We sang although our lives were really hard CHORUS:She taught us all piano, but my sister had the ear She could play the harmony to any tune she'd hear Now I don't claim much talent, but I've always loved to play And I guess I will until my dying day. CHORUS Those days come back so clearly, although I'm far away She gave me the kind of gift I love to give away And when my mother died, and she'd sung her last song We sat in the living room, singing all night long Singing la-la la, la-la Singing the front porch songs Singing the old torch songs La-la, la-la Singing the hymns to send her home. CHORUS |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MUSIC IN MY MOTHERS HOUSE From: YorkshireYankee Date: 21 Nov 03 - 11:17 PM Just noticed a line is missing from the 3rd verse; should be: Those days come back so clearly, although I'm far away She gave me the kind of gift I love to give away And when my mother died, and she'd sung her last song We sat in the living room, singing all night long Cheers, YY

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: MUSIC IN MY MOTHERS HOUSE From: Blackcatter Date: 21 Nov 03 - 11:33 PM bflat, I read your response, which starts with "Dave," in the voice of HAL from 2001 a Space Odyssey. Weird. . . |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Music in My Mother's House (Stuart Stotts From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 10 Jan 13 - 10:21 AM Wonderful song. Here's a story: Every season, as I'm preparing music for a new Animaterra concert, I invite members to request songs. One of my faithful "suggesters" had this on her list, so I posted it on the Animaterra Facebook page and got lots of positives. Two days later, a member who is non-technology luddite also suggested this song, out of the blue. So now I'm arranging it for women's chorus! |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Music in My Mother's House (Stuart Stotts From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 10 Jan 13 - 11:03 AM I might add that Stuart Stotts is very accessible and generous with this song! |
