Subject: Shape Note singing - good podcast From: Hagman Date: 07 Nov 25 - 01:59 AM Fire Draw Near is a monthly podcast and radio show which investigates Irish traditional music and song in all of its myriad forms, compiled and hosted by Ian Lynch, from the band Lankum. Usually concentrates on Irish music, but after an extensive tour of the US recently, he's come out with a very special episode on Shape Note singing in the US: "FDN LXIII is a special episode focusing on shape note singing in the United States. It is based around two interviews conducted this year with Howe Pearson and Sasha Suczyk and looks at the history and evolution of shape note singing in North America, as well as various cultural and social aspects of the tradition." Available from all major podcast suppliers, and directly from Ian here, and is a super listen. (Don't be frightened off by the intro music....) |

Subject: RE: Shape Note singing - good podcast From: Bruce from Bathurst Date: 08 Nov 25 - 02:19 AM I think the piper was Tommy Reck playing The Plains of Boyle. I don't know who 'doctored' the original recording. FDN is an excellent podcast. |
