Subject: Obit: Roy Book Binder, Amer Bluesman 1943-2026 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Mar 26 - 11:08 AM From a Acoustic Music Scene dot com, Roy Book Binder Posted by Michael Kornfeld. Born Roy Alan Bookbinder in Queens, New York on October 5, 1943, he took up the guitar following a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, after acquiring his first instrument in Italy and returning to New York. A student and friend of the Reverend Gary Davis, whom he met in 1966 and with whom he also toured during the late 1960s, Book Binder launched his career during the folk and blues revival in New York’s Greenwich Village, where he was a frequent participant in open mics hosted by Dave Van Ronk, The Mayor of MacDougal Street. Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Book Binder, Amer Bluesman 1943-2026 From: GUEST,Jerry Date: 06 Mar 26 - 12:24 PM Very sad news. A master of ragtime and country blues guitar, and a great raconteur in live shows. I still play some of his albums even though were recorded forty odd years ago. I think he toured the UK here in the 1980s, but possibly not much since then. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Roy Book Binder, Amer Bluesman 1943-2026 From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 06 Mar 26 - 12:57 PM I loved his style of Ragtime Blues and learned most of his Traveling Man LP way back when and still play some of those old standards. He made folks like Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Blake and Bo Carter accessible to intermediate pickers like me. |
