O'Carolan wrote the tune for the harp and as an instrumental. If it has words they were added later.

I don't know any words but the tune is supposed to have been written in honor of a battle between two groups of fairies who lived on two hills (the little hill and the big hill). The dispute was about which hill contained the remains of Finn MacCool, the great Irish hero, according to the liner notes of one version I've got.

The Irish Group 'Wolfe Tones' ecorded a copy of this song in English. If my memory serves me right, I think it's on their "Belt of the Celts" album.

I've also heard this song with Gaelic words. What comes to mind is Sting singing it in Gaelic on the Chieftans 'Long Black Veil' album. Hope this helps.
