John Breeze (Breezy on Mudcat) hosted an amazing evening at his St Albans, Herts, folk club last Friday. Main guest was Harvey Andrews (another Mudcatter), who was, as usual, brilliant.

Unexpected pleasures were brief sets from Johnny Collins, the nowadays somewhat reclusive Melanie Harrold (aka Joanna Carlin, aka Irma Cetas) and, for the first time in the UK for some twenty years, Chris Rohmann, perpetrator of Jasper Carrott's "Funky Moped" and many far better but less notorious songs.

I got so excited, I fluffed the first verse of the one song I sang - and it was one I've sung for 20 years or more!

John will be booking Melanie for a gig later in the year, but Chris flew back to the US yesterday. Come back soon, Chris.

Just about the best night I've had in a Folk Club in years! Thanks, John!!

Alan

JudeL,

The club runs every Friday night in the Comfort Inn in St Albans city centre. Parking's a bit remote, and the local constabulary use their sirens excessively, but the room is comfortable even if the beer is pressurised!

Next week is Derek Brimstone, the week after, Vin Garbutt.

I'm sure John will post at some stage with other details.

Alan

I know bits of St Albans Where's the Comfort Inn? Please explain in terms of things like Paton's bookshop, the Peahen, the Blue Anchor, Waterstones etc (and yes I do tend to use pubs and bookshops as landmarks)
