Well, I don't care if no one posts behind me on this one but WWWWHHHHOOOPPPEEEEEEEE! The Washington Bullets, known to the rest of the world at the Wizzards, took Juan Dixon, 6'3" who led Maryland to the National Championship, as the the 17th pick in the first round of the NBA draft. WWWHHHHOOOOPPPPEEEEE! This is the first player they have picked in the 1st round that I agree with since, well..... Ahhhhhh... Nevermind. Yeah. JUAN DIXON!!!!! Undersized? Yeah. Who cares. The man has the heart of a lion and the drive of a locomotive!!! YES!!!! JUAN DIXON!!!!! WWWHHHHOOOOPPPEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Sorry, DougR, you were saying?

Bobert

Well. gall danged, Van Lingle... Looks like it you and me celebratin' tonight. Yeah, I'm still rememberin' the '79 Bullets team with Elvin Hayes, Bobby Dandrige, Wes, Phil... And some of the great Terps. Buck Williams, Joe Smith, Lucas and even even ol' Lefty.... Yeah, couple of storied teams who have collectively had their share of sand kicked in their face.

Glad to know there's at least one Bullets/Terps fan in the Catbox other than me....

Yesssssss!

Bobert

Yeah Bob, I remember sitting up on a turn signal at M street and Wisconsin leading cheers the night the Bullets won the title in 78/79 (was it?), "Bobby D, Bobby D...". I also had my heart broken by Dean Smith at least a couple of times at Cole Field House with his cowardly "deep freeze" but we won a few there as well, I guess. This Dixon looks like a real thoroughbred and will be fun to watch. Maybe he'll help get the Wizards some TV time down here in SW Florida. vl

Hopefully MJ will come to his senses, retire and take JD under his wing.

UB Ed:

Well, I was a little dissappointed that Cris didn't stay another year but being picked 8th is tremendous for the kid. Lonnie, at 44th pick, is about what I expected as he sometimes leaves his A game at home. He'll be okay in the NBA but probably not much more than a role player, which is all he really was at Maryland.

But as for Juan? He is something special and being drafted by the Bullets is just great for the area and the team. He'll have to play the point but I think his ball handling skills are at a level where he can make the transition.

BTW, I'm reserving the new name for after the Bullets win one playoff game, something they have not done since the name change. Until then, they are still the Bullets...
