Has anyone seen this? It is showing several times this month on Independent Film Channel. I caught the first half hour or so, then had to go. It looked really good and had several real musicians in it, plus listed "the voice of Tom Waits" in the beginning credits.

The beginning started out with a delightful young couple from Japan who were riding the train all the way to Memphis to see Sun records and Graceland.

Here's the blurb about it from the IFC website:

Mystery Train

"...buoyantly funny from start to finish..." (The New York Times). Haunted by the spirit of Elvis Presley, Jim Jarmusch's blissful comedy focuses on the strange happenings and bizarre guests at a seedy Memphis hotel. In English.

Thanks,

kat

Good movie (and soundtrack, even with the Elvis). It was my first Jim Jarmusch experience. I don't have the IFC, but this reminds me that I should buy the dvd...

Thanks. I think I'll try to catch it, again. IFC has several times left this month.

Joe Strummer, former Clash lead vocalist, has a great turn in the movie as a violent love-hexed Liverpudlian. Steve Buscemi is also good as his straightlaced brother-in-law who becomes involved in a liquor store shooting and a night of boozing on the extreme edge. The three stories intertwine neatly, and the movie has an air of magic about it. If you like this one, see Night on Earth.

It's not my favorite Jim Jarmusch film by any means, but the music is good.

The impression I got when I went to Memphis several years ago is very different from that from the film. No mystery involved, though we were a (not young) couple from Japan too.
