When I create MIDI files I usually use a notation program (in my case Personal Composer). I tend to put the lyrics under the dots, because it helps me check that it all fits together. I also have many scores which have multiple parts and which therefore couldn't be easily posted using MIDI-TEXT. How about a place on Mudcat where scores could be posted ?

Because we probably all use different notation software, I would suggest that Acrobat PDF file format would be the easiest way to post them. Providing that they are created by printing from the notation program to a PDF file print driver (rather than from a scanned input), they should not need to be very large. A 4-part score of the glee "Hail, Hail Smiling Morn" which is 4 pages long, only takes just over 100K.

Hard to agree on the software but it's a good idea. I use Encore. I find it user-friendly and capable of medium-sized scores. It's easy to reference the notes in audio, too.

Finale is too complicated. Sibelius is more so than Encore. To me, Encore is more flexible and I have used it to arrange music professionally.

ABC is too limited in my view. Haven't used Songwright but I found Personal Composer not as user-friendly as Encore but "different strokes" I guess.

Trouble is that the company makes Encore (Passport) went out of business so it can only be acquired through a specific music company (can't remember it now but if you look Encore up on a search engine you'll find it).

The more songs printed by Mudcat the better.

Frank - How do you feel about the idea of using PDF files ?   There are several PDF file writers available on the web (I use FinePrint pdfFactory), if you don't register it you get a small advertising line on the bottom, but I can live with that. At the moment I end up e-mailing scores to people, but I have quite a few that I think other mudcatters would be interested in.

Any other people who would be interested in musical scores ?

Max, Pene - any comments ?

I'm looking for an easy to use M/S software package. I just bought one with a small keyboard, but the instructions are all in the program and its not self evident how to run it, which is a heartsink for me because I've not got the time to spend days working it out. When I set the program running instead of allowing me to add note by note it runs off in real time so I have to be able to play the tune to get it on the score, or it comes out all over the stave--!!! curses. I'm just venting my spleen, and will clean up afterwards I promise.

Sometimes you'll find that there is a manual included on the install disk as a WORD, PDF, HTML, or .TXT file. What is the software called ?
