Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep From: GUEST Date: 21 Sep 11 - 02:32 AM i really want to hear this song, i grew up with my papa singing it to me and am curious of the tune and also would like confirmation if this song is of scottish origin and how old it is. it always fascinated me thinking of the poor little lamb whilst snuggled safe in my grandpa's arms my children also love this song though my papa did mangle the words and mixed in a line from another song |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep From: meself Date: 30 Jul 26 - 11:06 AM Now, that's pretty dark ... ! Kind of reminds me of the Appalachian woman on another forum recently who was talking about how she would sing all her favourite old murder ballads, which had come to her through tradition, as lullabies, without ever thinking about the lyrics .... |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Baa, Baa, Black Sheep From: The Sandman Date: 30 Jul 26 - 11:26 AM the original rhyme has apolitical meaning dating to 1275 "Baa Baa Black Sheep" is a traditional English nursery rhyme that historically symbolizes a 13th-century medieval tax on wool imposed by King Edward I. The three bags of wool represent how a sack of wool was split: one for the king (master), one for the church or local landowner (dame), and originally none for the struggling farmer or shepherd boy (the little boy who cries down the lane). |

She retaliated by teaching our two the version which she'd learnt in Latin lessons. † She's always been a good Catholic. |
