Some basic info:
David Jones has been described as "one of England's foremost traditional singers." His enormous repertoire of songs and tunes ranges from traditional ballads and songs of the sea through humorous songs, Music Hall favorites, and contemporary songs.

David has performed at major folk festivals in the U.S. and U.K., as well as in concerts, folk clubs, colleges, schools, and libraries. He has appeared on television and radio and starred in many theatrical productions.

David's first recording for children, Widdecombe Fair, won the coveted Parents' Choice Gold Award and was also recommended by Booklist and School Library Journal.

David sings a capella or with guitar, and also plays fiddle, concertina, and tin whistle. He has been a member of Poor Old Horse since the early 90s.

I first saw David Jones at Eistedfod in Rhode Island back in 1985. He and another performer were doing a workshop after a very good blues player. They were discussing the way the bluesman was playing his guitar. The other performer commented that his hand went up and down the neck of the guitar like the nightie of a virgin bride on her wedding night. David looked embarrassed at that though I thought the remark was rather tame.

As an aside, Sins, you seem to be having a great life there in South Portland. Any regrets about leaving Queens? I bet I know the answer to that.

On the food front, Pamela, Deborah is bringing a Salad Nicoise and wine. A number have reserved beds and I have an assortment of 1/2 off bottles that may prove interesting.

I will probably do sausages in the kitchen not on the grill. The usual wine and beer and an assortment of Coke products which were on sale. Ice cream, maybe if it is hot.

To Mrs. Jones:
There should be about 14 attending.
Song Circle is completely open and some do offer spiritual music.
No dress code.
Alcohol permitted. Beer, wine, assorted whiskeys, assorted soft drinks, tea and coffee are in stock.
Profanity? It's never been an issue.
I don't know what David plans. Certainly there will be some ballads. The song circle will consist of a little bit of everything.

Profanity? That is an interesting question. Unlike today's teenagers folkies rarely use obscenities except maybe when spilling a drink or breaking a string. There are some songs that are a bit raunchy but are traditional so it is acceptable. Tom and Linn sing some Robbie Burns tunes that are "blue". And we had a night of multi-versions of the "Old She Crab".

Sounds like a nice gathering. Sadly, the rest of Roll & Go has been drafted for a recording session of songs based on Longfellow's poems, and a Boston area concert.

Maybe I'll polish up some of my old Music Hall repertoire.

Had forgotten about headless Jesus. Of course, we can do spirituals.

Jacqui and I saw David perform at the Wests' home in York last night. Some sea music, some Music Hall, some ballads, some humor, some sad songs, some...well you get the idea. We enjoyed it thoroughly and promise you will not be disappointed tonight.

I didn't realize that David and Peter know each other. Somehow I think we are in for a fun evening.

David was brilliant. Great music, great stories - had my neighbors listening from the street.

Post-concert music was a wonderful mix of sad, silly and somber with a delightful buffet thrown in. Nice surprise to have the Finns show up - I hadn't seen the post.

We had a great evening and David was definitely worth seeing twice, once at the Wests in York on the Friday evening and than last night. He really is a consumate entertainer and all round nice man.

I know he did the Jogging Song, at Kendall's request and one about the lumberjack, which was very moving. He also did a couple of English music hall songs, which led to Trubrit and me joining in with as many of the words as we knew.

Food was good - Tom produced the most amazing salad creation. Smoked salmon from Joanne as well - definite heaven!

David is a masterful performer, and it's always a pleasure to hear him.
Of course, I got over served again, and, my memory banks are not up to snuff.
Jacqui's chicken alfredo and Mary's sausages were tops. I didn't get to try the salad, but it was too pretty to eat!
