Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Naemanson Date: 08 Jul 07 - 05:48 PM I first saw David Jones at Eistedfod in Rhode Island back in 1985. He and another performer were doing a workshop after a very good blues player. They were discussing the way the bluesman was playing his guitar. The other performer commented that his hand went up and down the neck of the guitar like the nightie of a virgin bride on her wedding night. David looked embarrassed at that though I thought the remark was rather tame. Have a great concert. Pass on a greeting from Guam for me. I hope you all have a great night. As an aside, Sins, you seem to be having a great life there in South Portland. Any regrets about leaving Queens? I bet I know the answer to that. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 08 Jul 07 - 09:54 PM No regrets, Brett, and my family still asks if I am bored and will be coming home. On the food front, Pamela, Deborah is bringing a Salad Nicoise and wine. A number have reserved beds and I have an assortment of 1/2 off bottles that may prove interesting. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: GUEST,guest Date: 12 Jul 07 - 05:50 PM so...how many people are gonna be there??? do you play any spiritual music during the evening? is there a dress code? is alcohol permitted? not too big on profanity, either, but could deal with it as long as Mr. Jones sings up a good evening of song! and this will be an evening of just ballads? cheers |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Jeri Date: 12 Jul 07 - 06:09 PM Mary, it may just be a troublemaker. Or it might be his wife. You can't tell, you know... Is there anything missing from the menu? |
|
Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 12 Jul 07 - 06:31 PM Bread. Cheese. Dessert. I have crackers. To Mrs. Jones: There should be about 14 attending. Song Circle is completely open and some do offer spiritual music. No dress code. Alcohol permitted. Beer, wine, assorted whiskeys, assorted soft drinks, tea and coffee are in stock. Profanity? It's never been an issue. I don't know what David plans. Certainly there will be some ballads. The song circle will consist of a little bit of everything. Profanity? That is an interesting question. Unlike today's teenagers folkies rarely use obscenities except maybe when spilling a drink or breaking a string. There are some songs that are a bit raunchy but are traditional so it is acceptable. Tom and Linn sing some Robbie Burns tunes that are "blue". And we had a night of multi-versions of the "Old She Crab". Or have I missed your point completely? M |
|
Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Jeri Date: 12 Jul 07 - 06:58 PM I meant the trouble-maker's wife, not David's. I'll have to see if I have any brilliant ideas regarding food. It hasn't happened before, but anything's possible. I'm not bringing any dinner rolls, though. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: curmudgeon Date: 12 Jul 07 - 08:13 PM We'll bring cheese and bread. Does the large Scotch jug need replenishing? See you on Saturday - Tom |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Charley Noble Date: 13 Jul 07 - 09:03 AM Sounds like a nice gathering. Sadly, the rest of Roll & Go has been drafted for a recording session of songs based on Longfellow's poems, and a Boston area concert. Maybe I'll polish up some of my old Music Hall repertoire. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 13 Jul 07 - 10:24 AM I don't think so Tom. 1/3 full plus the barely touched Laphroiag SP?)from last time. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: adventure Date: 14 Jul 07 - 07:06 AM Saturday already. Heading to Adventure for a crew work day. Cleanup, caulk, pitch and whatever. Hey David...hope your concert in York went well last evening. Thanks for the ringup and glad to hear that Pete's home. See you tonight at Mary's with the rest of the crew. Mary those tatoos were very meaningful.... Any chance of doing Carrying or Bringing Nelson Home this evening? Will be a wonderful evening. So Jeri...was that a stick in the eye about who posted the retentive questions? Not much in that post that would interest me. Maybe the person or whatever will show up and we can invite the statue guy in Mary's back yard to enter into song with us....although his voice would probably be quite hoarse and raspy. Tonight...anyone bringing French bread???? Doryman and his mate |
|
Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: kendall Date: 14 Jul 07 - 07:21 AM You can't do real sea songs without profanity. After all, those old sailors were not choir boys. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 14 Jul 07 - 08:39 AM Had forgotten about headless Jesus. Of course, we can do spirituals. Jacqui and I saw David perform at the Wests' home in York last night. Some sea music, some Music Hall, some ballads, some humor, some sad songs, some...well you get the idea. We enjoyed it thoroughly and promise you will not be disappointed tonight. I didn't realize that David and Peter know each other. Somehow I think we are in for a fun evening. |
|
Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: ranger1 Date: 14 Jul 07 - 09:27 AM I may be able to drop in later in the evening, should be home around 9ish from the wedding. Save a wee dram of the good single malt for me, will ya? |
|
Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Jeri Date: 14 Jul 07 - 09:28 AM I'll bring duct tape. Peter, if I offended you or anyone else, I apologize. Of course, regarding the questions, it's mostly 'everything in moderation'. Sanity and silence, not so much. You should come. Mary, I hope NHJ has a drain or else you may have a ravening (but pious) horde of Ochlerotatus corpuschristii* * Not yet discovered |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: SINSULL Date: 15 Jul 07 - 12:28 PM David was brilliant. Great music, great stories - had my neighbors listening from the street. Post-concert music was a wonderful mix of sad, silly and somber with a delightful buffet thrown in. Nice surprise to have the Finns show up - I hadn't seen the post. Thank you all for supporting this event. Thank you for the generous donations of food and drink. Thank you, David, for a wonderful evening. Grandma's Old Arm Chair The Outside Track Swimmer's Song Bringing (no that's not the word) Nelson Home Someone else will have to complete the list. David graciously asccepted his gift and then tried to sneak off without it. Luckily Jacqui and Jeri were watching. They of course know all the tricks to ridding oneself of a gift. |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: jacqui.c Date: 15 Jul 07 - 12:39 PM We had a great evening and David was definitely worth seeing twice, once at the Wests in York on the Friday evening and than last night. He really is a consumate entertainer and all round nice man. I know he did the Jogging Song, at Kendall's request and one about the lumberjack, which was very moving. He also did a couple of English music hall songs, which led to Trubrit and me joining in with as many of the words as we knew. Food was good - Tom produced the most amazing salad creation. Smoked salmon from Joanne as well - definite heaven! |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: Herga Kitty Date: 15 Jul 07 - 12:43 PM That would have been Mike O'Connor's song about carrying Nelson home... hope we see David this side of the pond soon! Kitty |

Subject: RE: David Jones 7/14 Concert at SINSULL's From: kendall Date: 15 Jul 07 - 12:57 PM David is a masterful performer, and it's always a pleasure to hear him. Of course, I got over served again, and, my memory banks are not up to snuff. Jacqui's chicken alfredo and Mary's sausages were tops. I didn't get to try the salad, but it was too pretty to eat! |
