Jack will be there, but I have to miss this year - a band gig that looks like leading to bookings in Germany. Still at least it means Jack won't have to contend with keeping Zak out of the foodtent he'll be with me at home. I'll be there with you in thought - have a good banquet and raise a glass of port to me at about 2.00 am Sunday morning, and I'll raise mine to you.

Help, there are two threads on the Wail and Ive just posted a plea for a lift on the one titled "wareham wail" so I'm going to repeat it here as well, hope no ones offended

I've sent off my cheque and I'm looking forward to a great weekend

However I've just checked train travel from Manchester, and discovered that journey time(s) and ticket cost is a bit OTT.

Is there anyone travelling from a shorter distance, who could offer me a lift from a convenient railway station on or near their route?

If there is, I would be really grateful and obviously pay my way.
Theresa

I'll be driving from Harrow - although Harrow & Wealdstone is on the West Coast main line, I don't think trains from Manchester stop there, but you could change at Watford Junction onto a Silverlink train, if that's any help (or the Bakerloo line, but that's slower!)

Viv is also coming to the Wail for the first time - and we're NOT camping. Hoorah for me! Hoorah for everyone wanting some sleep on the camp site.

I will try to snore LOUD enough so's yous can hear me from my hotel, but no promises....

You'll have a great time! (So will we all...)

Especially as, in the light of the success of the voluntary refrain from smoking in the Anchor at Sidmouth, Grandad has decreed that the Middle Bar tent at the Wail will be non-smoking....

Hey, happens I'll be in UK from Oz 25 Aug to 19 Sept, looks like I might make the 'Wareham Wail' (whatever and wherever that is!).

I was hoping to catch up somewhere with the Middle Bar Singers, and Kitty, as I happily provided the words of the Toast Song , that Kitty learnt between Embankment and Camden Town for the Gloomy Bob do at Sharps.

It would be great to make contact!

Have songs, will travel.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris

I've just caught up with this on my return home from Whitby.

It would be great if you could make it to Wareham next weekend!

The Wail is a festival of unaccompanied singing. There are no big names, but a mix of invited singers whom Alan likes, and thinks other people will like, and others who come because they like to sing. There are 3 marquees, with a bar in each, providing different types of song event. One is the Middle Bar's home from home, one is run like a folk club, with floor spots, and one is usually just jump in and sing. There's a mediaeval midnight banquet on the Saturday night (and a costume workshop on Saturday afternoon for anyone looking for suitable mediaeval garb).

I'm going to the Wareham Wail because I really enjoy it, but I think it's a shame that the Wallingford Bunkfest has for the last couple of years been set up for the same weekend, and a lot of the Maidenhead and Wycombe crowd in particular who used to go to Wareham are going to Wallingford because it's nearer.

I agree, Kitty, but there seem to be so many clashes nowadays:-
* Liverpool Seafest / Alcester FF / Beverley FF (June)
* Swansea Seafest / Saddleworth FF (July)
* Hull Seafest / Whitby FF (Aug)
* Bridgnorth FF / Towersey FF (Aug)
* Bromyard FF / Swanage FF / Great Yarmouth Seafest (Sept)
...
... to mention just a few others.
But at least we get a bit of choice, even if it means that sometimes we spread ourselves more thinly than we would ideally like!
See you on Friday!

Bugger! Bugger! Bugger!
Down with relatives getting married and wanting a ceilidh on the Saturday evening of The Wail!
Most regretably, we will not be there, but our hearts will be, have some port on us - and we'll bring the mangonel next year! Scones to the ready all!!!!! May even comply with the unrepealed medieval law and send the Grey Goose flying on Sunday morning.

Have a good one, all!
Cheers, and a big hug to Alan, See you next year come hell or high water!
