"Word of Mouth" today at 4p.m. - available on listen again

Presenter Michael Rosen goes back to the Old School Yard.

"He's finding out what's become of playground rhymes, those verses that accompany young children's clapping, skipping and counting games.

How are they bearing up in the face of online alternative amusements? He finds rumours of their death to be greatly exaggerated.

In fact, at Columbia School in East London Michael finds them to be in right rude health, and constantly evolving, some even traceable to their roots in West Africa."

there was a follow-up article in yesterday's Observer newspaper:

http://books.guardian.co.uk/news/articles/0,,2228396,00.html

Malcolm Taylor, Library Director for the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library, was interviewed about the project on Radio 5 Live last night. Did anyone hear it?

I'm sure their health is *very* rude, if it's anything like I remember...

Both of those are very interesting and worthwhile projects-the British one and the US one.
