This is not a joke.

Just had an article here on the TV about t\he Irish Bog Snorkeling Championships.

There was a lady singing the song - only a few lines.

Missed most of it - but seem to remember the words "Swim thru the weeds" - TTO "The Wild Rover".

Can't help you with the song, but the Irish Championships are a latecomer on the scene. The original is the World Championship held at Llanwrtyd Wells since 1985.

This YouTube Clip gives a flavour - I particularly like the fast guy who says he hasn't been training for the past two weeks. You need be daft to try the event, but stark, staring mad to train for it!

Phil

Bog snorkeling is a very old tradition on Dartmoor

Does the chorus go,

We are the peat bog snorkellers,
Swimming through the weeds in the bog

? But that wouldn't be to the tune of The Wild Rover....

reminds me of when I heard a folk tune "Mist On The Bog" played on radio 2 (got it on a 78) - the presenter asked listeners to clap their hands, or people who didn't want to do that could just stand on the seat.....

Never mind the song. Get a load of that nice beefcake! (See video.)

At first I marveled that so many people turned out for the Welsh bog snorkeling. Once the competitor was out of his 'wetsuit' I understood why.

I repeat - "Missed most of it - but seem to remember the words "Swim thru the weeds""

Definitely sounded like TTO "The Wild Rover".
