Another one has joined my life. 11 months old, Irish wolfhound x GSD lady. To chase the I. W x Bearded collie round the beach. Her name's Minnie (Mineagan = sleek haired girl); she can can put her head on the worksurface (counter), her front paws round my neck, weighs about 50kg and likes to sit on my lap.
She's salt & pepper coloured with beautiful black flecks and I love her to bits.

Her previous person had to take a full time job, so she needed a new family.

I am so envious of you. I would love to rescue one of these grand animals. But there is a size limitation in the Association I live in.

So many folks get wolfhounds without realizing the obligation they are taking on, and then end up just ditching them. You are to be commended for taking the lovely Minnie in.

All the best,

Mick

Ah, they are such lovely critters. I used to stop on a causeway when I'd got to get my daughter from work. There would be a fellow with TWO of them. They were gentle and sweet. Each would take turns putting their chins on my car windowsill while I petted them. Beautiful spirits and thankfully a nice owner who didn't mind my going gaga over them. Congratulations to you!

Lucky you! I'd like to have a wolfhound... and a coonhound, and a GS, and a RC Collie, and a Newfoundland, and a ...

Ahem.

When I lived in Halifax, back in the seventies there was a very short lady who owned an Irish Wolfhound, a huge one. I never knew her name, but used to meet her frequently late in the evening as she ran with the hound through the quiet residential area where I lived. The sight of this short, muscular young woman with the enormous dog beside her, running silently out of the fog that envelops Halifax so often, was nothing short of magical. I could almost believe in fairies and banshees and skin changing selkies whenever I saw this pair.

She won't keep still for long enough, Sooz, but I'm working on it.

This morning her companion got so exhausted from being chased round the beach (which is what we got her for) that he took refuge in the sea (which she hasn't quite worked out yet)
