Subject: RE: lyrics--riding down from bangor From: Philippa Date: 01 Jun 99 - 05:33 PM There is a Bangor in N Ireland, but I thought of a song about a day trip to Bangor, Wales, remembered from a Steeleye Span recording. |

Another lifetime ago I spent months and months and season after season in the backwoods of Maine near the Canadian Border. Bangor was "big time" for us. Saw "Sha-Na-Na" in the Bangor H.S. gymnasium, an apporpriate setting.

Subject: RE: lyrics--riding down from bangor From: Joe Offer Date: 02 Jun 99 - 03:03 AM If it's in Maine, it's pronounced BANG-gore, by the way. None of this "Banger" stuff. -Joe Offer, hoping to see the lyrics- |

Subject: Lyr Add: RIDING DOWN FROM BANGOR (from F Crumit) From: Tony Burns Date: 02 Jun 99 - 06:49 PM gargoyle; here it is. RIDING DOWN FROM BANGOR As sung by Frank Crumit Riding down from Bangor on an eastern train After weeks of hunting, in the woods of Maine Quite extensive whiskers, beard, mustache as well Sat a student fellow, tall and slim and swell
Empty seat behind him, no one at his side
Blushingly she faltered, "Is this seat engaged?"
Pleasantly they chatted, how the cinders fly
Then the student fellow feels a gentle touch
Out into the daylight glides that eastern train

Subject: RE: lyrics--riding down from bangor From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 29 Sep 02 - 03:36 AM The Day Trip To Bangor referred to above wasn't done by Steeleye: it was by Fiddler's Dram (which included two members of the Oyster Band). I know, 'cos I sang background on the chorus :-) I closed this thread in an attempt to avoid splitting the discussion. Please post here (click) or in one of the related threads listed in the crosslinks toward the top of this page. Thanks. -Joe Offer- |
