Hi, Thought I would let you know about these training opportunities for Community Musicians, Musicians, Vocalists, Teachers etc with Humbersound Music CPD Network Training Days. These are really excellent training days. All the information is below but please PM me if you need any further infomation:

First one is Saturday November 29th 2008 in Hull

MusicLeader Yorkshire is delighted to be continuing our work in the Humber region with the launch of our Music CPD Network. Developed out of our previous successes delivering training in association with Humbersound, this programme is open to anyone who wishes to attend and should provide lots of tasty morsels to entice music leaders of any age, experience and background. The network will meet over 4 days and pracititoners will have the opportunity to access training from leading music professionals and share practice, contacts and project information. Anyone is welcome – just book a place and come along!

The dates and topics for the 2008 – 9 academic year are:

Saturday 29th November 2008
EFFECTIVE LEADING OF GROUPS
Phil Mullen, Goldsmith's College, London
The Quality Royal Hotel, Hull
10am – 4pm

This workshop will combine practical music making examples with drama exercises and insights into leadership theory to enable participants to improve their group leadership skills. At the end of the session, participants will:

• Have developed a repertoire for physically directing a group
• Been given coaching in voice tone and body stance and language
• Dealt with issues in workshop leadership
• Explored the differing roles demanded of the workshop leader including teaching and facilitation
• Addressed issues of classroom, workspace and behaviour management
• Examined practical leadership through a number of musical pieces

Sunday 8th February 2009
MUSICAL MISH MASH!
Chris Bartram
The Ropewalk, Barton upon Humber
10am – 4pm

Chris presents a day jam packed with musical morsels – from games to rhythmic ideas and tips on starting points for workshops. Join the musical melee for a bag full of repertoire to take away and use in any successful workshop!

Saturday 2nd May 2009
IMAGINATIVE WAYS INTO GROUP SINGING
Em Whitfield Brooks
The Ropewalk, Barton upon Humber
10am – 4pm

Back by popular demand, nationally renowned singer and workshop leader Em Whitfield Brooks leads practitioners through a variety of repertoire and techniques to get groups singing, both through standard repertoire and also in devising more creative explorations of vocal work. Presented in association with Sing Up!

Sunday 7th June 2009
EXPLORING THE WORLD OF SAMBA
Julian Coburn Hough
The Quality Royal Hotel, Hull
10am – 4pm

Julian explores Samba rhythms as an essential way in to any musical project. As an ice breaker, for gaining confidence, for pulse recognition, for more established or experienced musicians to learn how to groove, for ensemble techniques, for learning syncopation, as a spring board to expressive compostion - the list goes on and on!

Drumming will never be the same again!

Each day will cost £25 to attend (£50 for non MusicLeader members), but book a place on all 4 days for only £80 (£160 for non MusicLeader members). For more information on how to join Humbersound, please contact Dave Watts on davewatts@dall.karoo.co.uk 07980 282 266.

Em Whitfield Brooks is also doing workshops with the Sing Up! initiative in Lincolnshire (as opposed to North Lincs), aimed at teachers, youth workers and anyone else who is likely to promote music with primary school children. Those workshops are funded so are FOC - I just go along for the craic!. Haven't got the details with me here at work but will look them up and post here.

Deirdre

This is interesting although I personally feel it may be a bit ambitious, hope I am wrong and that there is a good deal of interest!

I am a member of Yorkshire Garland and we as a group are keen to pass on our music and song and traditions such as longword, plays etc

There are also other organisations who are interested parties such as Yorkshire Arts (include Lincs too)Ryburn3steps and what is left of SRFN via Stirrings

Perhaps some one from your organisation would like to come to our next volunteers meeting in December or send a blurb about your objectives and likely folk content and relevance to the folk scene activities and feedback??

I think it true to say that folk workshops in Uk is largely confined to enthusiastic amateurs and professionals already on the scene

All the best

Ray
