Subject: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: leeneia Date: 01 Dec 20 - 12:09 AM I just learned something helpful about Zoom. If you have been using it, you know that pressing and holding the spacebar is supposed to let you speak. But sometimes it doesn't. What I learned is that you have just done something special, such as changing the view or the volume, then the trick of pressing the space bar may not work. In my case, I then click on the Unmute button, which is unreliable and may not respond. By that time, people are shouting advice at me. Everybody please remember that methods of unmuting may or may not be reliable, and give people a chance. You can assume that somebody whose face has become familiar knows what to do. |
Subject: RE: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: DaveRo Date: 01 Dec 20 - 02:58 AM There's an unmute keyboard shortcut: Zoom hot keys and keyboard shortcuts That piece only lists 'spacebar' as applying to Mac. In my experience some don't work, or only work when a particular window has focus - e.g. the meeting, not the participant list. |

Subject: RE: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: GUEST Date: 01 Dec 20 - 09:23 AM The Windows 10 app sometimes pops up a window saying that spacebar unmutes - when I talk when muted I think. I don't recall if I have tried it. |
Subject: RE: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: leeneia Date: 01 Dec 20 - 10:53 AM Well take it from me, spacebar might not unmute after you have done something "fancy." (I use Windows 10, and I get boxes telling me to use the spacebar to unmute.) I have sensitive hearing, and I have to adjust my computer's volume a lot. That's one operation that affects the spacebar. By the way, if you are speaking DO NOT SHOUT INTO A MICROPHONE. I have been hurt so many times by people doing that. You'd be surprised how loud people get when exclaiming "Great!" or giving a groan of embarrassment. There's one catter who hurt me so bad that I am never going to listen to him again. When it's his turn, I turn my volume down to 0. |

Subject: RE: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: Thompson Date: 17 Nov 24 - 05:57 AM What drives me crackers is how the "Share Screen" has been destroyed in the current version. There used to be Share Screen, which you dismissed with Stop Share, or something like that. How it continues to show the Share icon even when you're sharing, and it's hard to dismiss whatever you're sharing without shutting down the whole meeting. |
Subject: RE: Tech: a tip about Zoom From: Acorn4 Date: 18 Nov 24 - 03:48 AM I find Alt -A a much more reliable way of muting and unmuting - the space bar method is very unreliable. |
