Note "chugalug" is a word used in Australian slang. It means drink up, empty the drinking vessel e.g. drinking a whole jug full of beer etc. Can you give us some more info please? What genre or style of music is it? It sounds like a drinking song so it could be Irish or Australian, or it might be a sea shanty?? Do you remember who sang it or whether it was a solo artist or group, do you remember which instruments were played to accompany it. I suffered from an earworm just recently and the very knowledgeable Mudcatters identified it and put me out of my audio misery - until the next earworm invades my brain. |

The Roger Miller song was the only one I could find too, cnd - and thank you for identifying my earworm recently in another thread!! :-) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: what song? o chugalug let us all go tog From: GUEST,MG Date: 25 Apr 26 - 03:34 PM it is a song we sang now and then in Seattle. I assume it is some sort of English tavern song. Everyone seemed to know it but i do not know any words. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: what song? o chugalug let us all go tog From: Helen Date: 25 Apr 26 - 04:36 PM Thanks MG. This is probably not going to help but I searched for song "free and easy" and this sea shanty called Free and Easy sung by Rita Connolly was one of the search results. Here is a video performed by Rita Connolly and Shaun Davey There will be other songs with those lyrics, e.g. a country song by Dierks Bentley. I'll keep searching. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: what song? o chugalug let us all go tog From: Helen Date: 25 Apr 26 - 07:17 PM Sorry, I know I'm posting a lot in this thread but this song just popped into my head: Jock Stewart That thread has a lot of variations of the lyrics and titles, and also there are two melodies attributed to it. The tune I know is: Jock Stewart - performed by Ewan McLennan and Tim O'Brien But the other tune is Believe Me if All Those Endearing Young Charms. (I haven't heard that version. It's a lovely melody but I can't imagine the Jock Stewart song being sung to it.) The version I know has these lyrics and the chorus seems like a rewritten version of your chugalug song because the word chugalug means to drink alcohol in big gulps without pausing: Now my name is Jock Stewart, I'm a canny young man, And a roving young fellow I've been. Chorus: So be easy and free, When you're drinkin' wi' me, I'm a man you don't meet every day. |
