Subject: Obit: Glen Hansard (1970 - 2026) From: BrooklynJay Date: 29 Jul 26 - 07:37 PM I'm sure that by now, most everyone has heard the horrible news. He was riding home on his motorcycle after a performance when he was involved in a fatal crash. We've lost a giant. My wife knew him for thirty years. This is absolutely devastating. He leaves a wife and four-year-old son. Tragic beyond words. Jay |

Subject: RE: Obit: Glen Hansard (1970-2026) From: GUEST,Peter Laban Date: 30 Jul 26 - 07:38 AM Not to sidetrack thus any further but Danny Sheehy, Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Glen Hansard, Breandan-Pháid Moriarty and Liam Holden crewed the naomhóg on the way to Santisgo de Compostella. Danny Sheehy died when the boat overturned. Hangars as far as I remember only was there for one leg (of three) of the trip. The documentary is online. I was a big shock when the news of Hansard's death arrived. I had heard on the news earlier a man had died in a bike accident in the early hours but at that time he was not identified. I was at a lunchtime concert when the RTE news feed on my phone brought the news.It needed to sink in for a little bit, it was such a shock. On my way home the radio I the car was alive with tributes, univetsal grief and shock. Very like how it was when Sinead O'Connor died. |

I watched it live. : Cór Cuil Aodha sang, Liam O Maonlai, Colm Mac Con Iomare et al played a beautiful Port na bPucai, Breanndán Ó Beaglaoigh spoke very movingly and sang Slán le Maigh with Cormac on the concertina, family members spoke, Hansard's wife Maire was heartbreaking in her grief, Lisa O’Neil sang Old Note, Eddie Vedder, Marketa Irglova, Bono and the Edge and a lot of others contributed. A great send off, as they say. |
