Subject: Funny Irish lyrics
From: GUEST,caoimhindude_23@yahoo.co.uk

For the lova Jasus is thee anyone with an imagination who can help me?

I have to collect as many re-written funny Irish songs as possible. That is, take a song like 'Danny Boy' and re-write the lyrics into something side-splittingly, piss-yourself funny. It can any Irish song of your choosing from something traditional like 'When Irish Eyes Are Smiling' to the Corrs or the Pogues, just so long as its an Irish song. Consider it a challenege.

Many thanks for your help.

Kevin

Hey, Kevin, go to the quick links, pull down the menu and click Mudcat Songbook. Then choose Parodies. There a lots there. Not all Irish, but a great many are. There is a great parody of Danny Boy called "Oh Damn It All" by Morticia. There also used to be a lot of parodies at Songworm but I can't seem to get there right now. Don't know if it is net congestion or if the site is closed.

Here's a piece of a parody called when Irish Guys Are Smilin'.

When Irish guys are smilin',
sure an' they've had a drink or two,
of that good ol' Irish whiskey
and a bowl of Irish stew.

When Irish guys are smilin',
they all love to sing a song,
so come on everybody,
lift a glass and sing along.

Now I don't know if there is any more to this one but it's a start. Feel free to add, subtract, twist and torture it to meet your own specs.

Not songs but some great stories with music softly playing in the background are those of Pat O' Malley, The Lacashire Lad, Decca #228. Included are six stories on three 12 inch 78's. Three are stories about Sam Small, a reluctant soldier. The other three, my favorites, are the exploits of 'Erbert Pinwinkle, a young boy who can do nothing right and so is always in trouble. Of those three tales 'Erbert and the Kidnappers is especially good. If you enjoy reciting silly stories these work well. Good luck.
