Subject: Seattle & Moncton ??? ! ! ! From: gnu Date: 31 Mar 01 - 07:31 AM Front page of Moncton, NB Times & Transcript today : Eureka ! Moncton's twin unearthed. Reader's Digest version : Seattle, WA area experiencing severe drought lately. Receding water in nearby resevoir reveals town named Moncton, settled in 1902 by man named Moncton ( which I find doubtful ) from New Brunswick. Town of 200 people was flooded out in 1915 by groundwater from a nearby dam built in 1914 by city of Seattle, says Ralph Naess of Seattle Public Utilities. There's pictures and all ! It was a railway town... Moncton, NB was a big time railway town. Now, the article states in the fourth paragraph that this is NOT an April Fool's Day joke, but I wonder..... Any of you Seattle 'Cats know anything about this ? gnu |

Subject: RE: BS: Seattle & Moncton ??? ! ! ! From: GUEST Date: 31 Mar 01 - 04:31 PM I suspect Monckton was where those ousted by the Denny Regrade moved to, on Chief Sealth's abvice. They figured Ballard was probably going to be chopped down, too, but those Scandinavian's had other ideas, and very strong arms. [-from Bremerville-by-the-Sound, well Ed Bremer died years ago, but natives still call it that.] |
