Subject: Protest song about Foot and Mouth From: Bernard Date: 15 Apr 01 - 12:25 PM Not many of you will know who Charlotte is - She's a Poet/Singer/Songwriter who is a regular at the Railway and Northwich Folk Clubs, usually on Singers' Night. Anyway, she's written a song which you'll probably find interesting; below I've included the two emails she sent to me - simpler than trying to explain it all over again! Here is a song about the shambles which is being made of the current foot & mouth outbreak. The straight link between this outbreak and the BSE outbreak and the Salmonella outbreak is MAFF. Sack MAFF! If you would like to spread the song far and wide, feel free. It can be downloaded free of charge from my web site (below). I would like to see it be of use. Charlotte Peters Rock If you use it, I'd be interested to be kept up to date. Click for MP3 Foot & Mouth - Pie in the SkyThey're piling lives high - selling cheap The cattle are lowering price as they fry Mint sauce is too late for the sheep And nobody cares to insist that they stop Each farmer is hunted alone Soon meat from the world will be sold in each shop Of British Meat - never a bone We joined the EC and it said that no more could slaughter-house sizes be small So we shut em all down - now we cannot ignore Great Britain's one great slaughter-hall The Ministry men clad in wellies and white are killing both broadly and ill The army has got all our lambs in it's sight And bleating won't stop the next kill They're bawling 'disease-free' from pre-fabs at MAFF Well what do they think we have got If this is disease-free it sounds such a laugh When the Dutch vaccinate on the spot They're putting out rugs disinfectant and soap They're leaving each carcase to lie Then dragging it round the whole country in hope disease will disperse bye and bye In Cheshire - a dairying county of note Dead-waggons have feet sticking out As shot cows insist on their last rite - to vote an spread the disease without doubt Collect all your tickets for pie in the sky Don't stop to reflect on just why You're eating MAFF Pie as the animals die Just eat up your pie in the sky The barbeque smoke's spreading high in the air An tourism's dead as a cow As country folk tremble and grieve and despair Ah Stop this stupidity now There's bonfires burning to east an to west There's farm children's tears in the night To north and to south - yes they're truly obsessed Just sack MAFF - It's not very bright You'd think Foot & Mouth was The Black Death again instead of a mild-ish disease blown out of proportion by Ministry men to bring farming folk to their knees They're turning our pigs into pie in the sky They're piling lives high - selling cheap The cattle are lowering price as they fry Mint sauce is too late for the sheep about.com Well I was going to garden all day yesterday, but it rained all afternoon, so I spent the time more productively, sending our emails to all and sundry - press, radio, pressure groups etc. Let me know if you hear any feedback will you? Charlotte Will you send it round your email list for me and ask if anyone hears any feedback? [BMC] Email Charlotte directly with your comments, etc. At the moment she isn't a Mudcatter, but that may well change!! |

Subject: RE: Protest song about Foot and Mouth From: Bernard Date: 17 Apr 01 - 08:47 AM My father reckons when he was in his teens (1930's) they kept F&M under control by paying the local kids to shoot at birds, as they are the main carriers (birds, not kids!). It's a minor disease that can be allowed to run its course. The only snag is the affected animals never put back the weight they lose, and are less valuable - makes you think... Why not vaccinate? |

Subject: RE: Protest song about Foot and Mouth From: GUEST,Charlotte Date: 17 Apr 01 - 02:51 PM hey won't vaccinate beacuse we've been truned into a colony of the European Community. They're even killing rare breeds. Pity they don't seem to know just what we're losing - but then, they didn't recognise the rare poultry they were trying to kill ten years ago during the badly organised Salmonella crisis. |

Subject: RE: Protest song about Foot and Mouth From: Grab Date: 18 Apr 01 - 06:27 AM Charlotte, they will vaccinate, trouble is that it looks like the farmers won't. Problem is that if you vaccinate, you can't export, and that screws the farmers' incomes over. Graham. |
