Subject: Young Musician Interested in Folk Music From: GUEST,Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 04 Sep 02 - 08:48 PM jp100@concentric.net Jim is interested in Folk music/sea shanties. He would like to get some contacts around Seatle Wa. Jim is a young man who is blind and finds it difficult to attend Folk venues due to transportation limitations. He is studying guitar and would love to learn more. I have suggested joining the Mudcat and contact the Seatle folk club. If anyone in the area is willing to help please email him, or he is known on paltalk as jim100_1. |

Subject: RE: Help: Young Musician Interested in Folk Music From: Mary in Kentucky Date: 04 Sep 02 - 09:20 PM Hi Dave, I've missed LOL! Tell your friend that there is a young man active in the Kentucky Folk Scene who is blind, plays guitar and may have some advice for attending various functions. If you want to contact him, I'll need to do some searching. He is married to a blind woman, and the two of them are FANTASIC singers and performers. |

Subject: RE: Help: Young Musician Interested in Folk Music From: Don Firth Date: 05 Sep 02 - 03:48 PM A good starting place would be the Seattle Folklore Society. Lots of resources and contacts HERE. For someone interested in sea chanteys and sea lore, the Center for Wooden Boats might be a good place to check (clicky). A lot of chantey-singing goes on there during the Northwest Folklife Festivals and the Wooden Boat Festivals. I think there are people in both these organizations that could give good advice and point directions. Don Firth |
Subject: RE: Help: Young Musician Interested in Folk Music From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 05 Sep 02 - 05:47 PM I've met Jim100_1 on Paltalk a number of times, and gave him a couple little "lessons" in my own room, to help him get started. Nice guy.
I'm glad he's making contacts in Seattle, where he only recently moved from somewhere in Nebraska, for a new job. Dave Oesterreich |
