After many SNAFUS, we finally got a pretty good MIDI of this Christmas carol into the MUDCAT MIDIs.

I started a new thread because the old one was taken up primarily by discussion of technical difficulties.

(I regret having posted the lyrics without the MIDI, because they aren't meant to be a poem separate from the music. (See intro in the older thread.)

The melody (with harmony in some places) is here Raise Your Voices (Genie)

The song isn't "new" in the sense of having been written this year. The orginal version was done in 1993 and a modified lyric in 1999. But it's new to Mudcat.

Dunno why, Susan. I downloaded the file yesterday with no problem and again just now.

(I have Mac, but the Windows/Mac thing shouldn't affect what happens when you click on the link, though your computer's sound software might affect your ability to play the MIDI after downloading.)

Oh, I thought you were talking about the Mudcat MIDI link, Susan. You meant the link to the lyrics?

The link above to the MIDI should work now, but the files still has a few errors. FWIW, much of the harmony on the chorus is soprano descant, while the melody line is the alto line.

The MIDI in the Mudcat MIDIs is still the intermediate one (flute). The revised version, with guitar for melody and flute for harmony, has been sent to the Mudcat wizards and will at some point be substituted for the flute version. It makes it a lot easier to distinguish the melody from the harmony, and it has a bit of funky sounding percussion to indicate where some of the guitar slaps and taps go.
