Subject: Lyr Add: WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Nov 98 - 06:18 PM This was requested in another thread. -Joe Offer- WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS (Henry Creamer and J. Turner Layton, 1922) Guess! Where do you think I'm goin' when the winds start blowin' strong? Guess! Where do you think I'm goin' when the nights start growin' long? I ain't goin' East, I ain't goin' West, I ain't goin' over the cuckoo's nest; I'm bound for the town that I love best, Where life is one sweet song: CHORUS:Guess! What do you think I'm thinkin' when you think I'm thinkin' wrong? Guess! What do you think I'm thinkin' when I'm thinkin' all night long? I ain't thinkin' this, I ain't thinkin' that, I cannot be thinkin' about your hat; My heart does not start to pit-a-pat Unless I hear this song: (Chorus) …..I cannot be thinkin' about your hat??? Maybe that's why this verse is forgotten…. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Way Down Yonder in New Orleans From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 02 Oct 07 - 02:49 PM Blossom Seeley introduced this song. With Bennie Fields, she was a vaudeville star. Perhaps the 'hat' had meaning in her routines. Hear an instrumental by the "Georgians" on Red Hot Jazz: Way Down Yonder |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Way Down Yonder in New Orleans From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 02 Oct 07 - 03:19 PM The cd, "Legendary Voices of Vaudeville," track 13- Blossom Seeley singing "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans." 36 tracks, some interesting, but $25.50 (at Amazon.com) a little steep unless your interest in vaudeville is strong. "Darktown Strutters Ball" sung by Elsie Janis also on this collection. |
