Subject: Is the cure as bad as the disease? From: Paul Burke Date: 23 Dec 05 - 05:06 AM Didgeridoos cure sleep problems! As my brother memorably put it, "Why is it, when I see someone bring a didgeridoo into a session, that the words 'arse' and 'shove' spring immediately to mind?" |

Subject: RE: Is the cure as bad as the disease? From: katlaughing Date: 24 Dec 05 - 04:48 AM That is very kewl! I *feel* practicing my Native American flute may do the same thing, though I understnad the didg would use more breathe, so probably more efficacious. As one who has sleep apnea I was told weight is not as much of an issue as once thought. The fellow who tested me was skinny as a rail and had the condition and surgery to correct it, as did his son. It has more to do with the muscles in the throat and the way the tongue falls back when sleeping, as I understand it. I'll have to see if I can rustle up some pvc pipe and fashion one for a go at it. :-> "Big Blow and the Bushwackers" do an awesome bit of LIVELY stuff on their CD. Thansk for posting this! kat |

Subject: RE: Is the cure as bad as the disease? From: GUEST,Jack Campin Date: 24 Dec 05 - 02:28 PM A few weeks ago the Scottish papers ran a story about a kid who cured his asthma by playing the Highland pipes. For both conditions I guess breathing at higher than normal pressure and voume is all that really matters. Doctors like to dramatize; a flute would work perfectly well, this is just the Victorian idea that effective medicine has to burn, sting or taste horrible. Perhaps there's a motor disability that's improved by bodhran or tambourine therapy? Or maybe somebody's prescribing scratch turntables for ADHD? |
