Subject: Review: An unsolicited plug: Scottish Music From: dick greenhaus Date: 26 Sep 06 - 02:40 PM Just encountered a splendid collection of Scottish Music aimed at (but not exclusivly for) school kids. It's "Traditional Scottish Songs and Music",(Gallus, Ewan McVicar, 84 High Street, Linlithgow, EH49 7AQ Scotland.) It's an attractive soft-cover book with words and written music for 43 songs and tunes, aling with explanations of topics such as how pibroch works, Gaelic songs for waulking, dancing and devotion. It covers a diverse spectrum of subjects ranging through History, struggles, football, whaling, mining, farm life and magic. It comes with a CD with 32 recordings of songs plus nine tales and five bonus karaoke tracks. And it's being sold for the ridiculously low proce of 5 quid ($9.50 US). You can E-mail ewanmcvicar@compuserve.com |

Subject: RE: Review: An unsolicited plug: Scottish Music From: dick greenhaus Date: 28 Sep 06 - 11:04 AM At the price that the publisher is asking, CAMSCO doen't have the gall to ask fo a trade discount. I posted it purely as a public service. |
Subject: RE: Review: An unsolicited plug: Scottish Music From: toadfrog Date: 03 Oct 06 - 10:59 PM Yes. I doubt its possible from the U.S. actually to purchase stuff from a small outfit in Scotland without some kind of middle person, but I will give it a try. Thanks for the reference. |
Subject: RE: Review: An unsolicited plug: Scottish Music From: weerover Date: 04 Oct 06 - 07:21 AM If you are interested in the above, you'd probably also enjoy another book by Ewan: "One Singer, One Song", a collection of songs from writers around Glasgow. I got mine at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow, but I suspect would be available from Ewan direct as above. wr. |
Subject: RE: Review: An unsolicited plug: Scottish Music From: Mooh Date: 04 Oct 06 - 09:08 AM Side note...The Scottish Guitar by Rob MacKillop is nice primer for the playing of such on guitar, and might make a nice companion book to the thread topic. It also was "ridiculously" cheap, free in fact, on line, though I don't know if it's currently available. MacKillop had titles on Mel Bay but not this one I understand. Sorry for the drift. Peace, Mooh. |
