Subject: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Max Date: 18 Mar 99 - 08:03 PM Hi all. I noticed that the ICQ chat room I set up is used quite extensively, so I thought I'd work on a chat room on the mudcat. Anyhow, we have a grand design for the future and a "for now" idea. I set up a test chat room here: http://www.mudcat.org/chat/irc.cfm. Try it out if you like and let me know what you think. As I mentioned, this will be eventually replaced with our own chat thing. Oh, also, it is members only for now. |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Max Date: 18 Mar 99 - 09:53 PM OK, this particular chat requires that you have a 4.0 browser. Sorry about that. Tomorrow I will try again. |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: reggie miles Date: 18 Mar 99 - 11:56 PM Couldn't make it into the chat room. I did however read something about an error regarding some member who didn't bring an ID. (Is this an adults only thing?) I have a valid Washington State drivers license is that good enough to get in? It's got my picture on it. Will I also have to give a fingerprint, retina scan, blood, stool, and urine sample, like I do when I'm cashing a check? Then there was something about someone who didn't bring enough cookies to go around for everyone??? I didn't know it was suppose to be a potluck chat or I would've baked some cookies too. Reggie |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Banjer Date: 19 Mar 99 - 01:31 AM Just checked out the chat room, all seems to be working well. I was there by myself, however, and since I have been talking to myself long before I got into computers I didn't stay long! I run a Pentium 133, 1.2g hard drive and 48 megs of ram with the 4.04 Netscape browser. Got in with a minimumDL time and all functioned well. I did notice that on the little ID screen my nicknmae is as I originally listed it, "Banjeray". This board has shortened it to Banjer, which is OK too. Look forward to being able to chat with folks in the chat room......Thanks for an excellent effort...It has made the Mudcat my #1 place to go after logging on and many times I spend all my available time here...I have been deleting some of my bookmars because I just don't feel I can spread myself that thin !! Thanks Max!! |
Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Teresa Date: 19 Mar 99 - 02:33 AM Hi. Unfortunately, with my current speech and screen-reader setup, I cannot make sense of Java. There's a possibility that with a new upgrade, I will be able to in a few months. In the meantime, which IRC server can I find this chat room on? Thanks, Teresa |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Banjer Date: 19 Mar 99 - 06:20 AM Hey Catspaw, when I was there all I saw listed as "Audience" was my name. I saw no others. Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Big Mick Date: 19 Mar 99 - 02:14 PM Got in fine, Max, and enjoyed a lovely chat with the object of my desire (The fair Alison for those who don't know....***grin***), Alan of Australia, and AlistairUK. But when I closed and got out, I continued to get the doorbell and door closing, even when I was online, but not connected to Mudcat. Must have something to do with the applet. Mick |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Date: 20 Mar 99 - 12:29 PM I've been on several times now but I'm always alone! Maybe we should set a time for chats- when is a good time for y'all? I can usually be on around 9 pm EST USA. ***I take it back! I just had a chat with AlistairUK- but still, maybe the occasional planned chat isn't such a bad idea. |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: alison Date: 20 Mar 99 - 11:41 PM Hi, Just a suggestion... there are a lot of different time zones out there.. and it would be hard to get an acceptable time for everyone.. but how about if anyone who is online goes in there.... on the hour (you know when the long hand is pointing straight up) and loiters for say 5 minutes, then with a bit of luck we might bump into some other mudcatters...... what do you think? slainte alison |
Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: katlaughing Date: 20 Mar 99 - 11:52 PM Good idea, Alison. I was just in there, still says I am, but I minimized it, no sense in talking to just m'self! Otherwise, Max, it's a great new feature; I've had a lot of fun in there. Will there eventually be "rooms" for private chats? And, do our words in there get saved anywhere or do they just go off into the cyberaethers? Thanks, katlaughing |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Barbara Date: 21 Mar 99 - 06:46 PM Pete, the window said you were there but you didn't answer anything I typed, so I bailed. You do type in the small box at bottom and scroll, right? I try again on the next hour. Blessings, Barbara |
Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Jo Taylor Date: 21 Mar 99 - 08:00 PM Hello Barbara, come in on the next hour! I've had it minimised for ages and no-one's there, and I can't seem to get the coloured box thing on the ICQ one ...somebody join me??!! Jo |
Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Pete M Date: 21 Mar 99 - 08:28 PM Got in successfully this morning and contacted Banjer and Shambles although we could not raise Baz despite the system showing him as being present. Since then the system seems to have lost my "cookie" (Must be them "Good ole boys 'kicking ass'!") I've reset that but attempts to reconnect to the 'chat room' time out. Is this because its full? I noticed Max had increased the limit to 5. Pete M |

Subject: RE: New Mudcat Feature Testing From: Barbara Date: 25 Mar 99 - 02:44 PM Ah, Sean, how did you know we went whale watching last week? Lots of Blue whales heading north just off the coast of Oregon, we followed three, one at only about 10 -15 yards. They are magnificent animals. Max, a link at the top of the page would be helpful, so I didnt have to pull up my bookmarks every time. (Or is there a simpler way I just don't know about?) Blessings, Barbara |
