Then again I could find a good ale guide on Google.

Never touch the stuff myself. But I do know a flute tune called the Jug of Brown Ale ... very fast & difficult, I suspect it could only be played stone cold sober.

Next Session at Chauncy Court (spelling corrected) is on Wednesday 13th April at 8:30.

For the benefit of Eleanor, and anyone else who gets confused when there are five Wednesdays in a month, in accordance with tradition laid down by our patroness, the lovely and now exiled Jacqui, these sessions are held not on alternate Wednesdays, but on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. Ergo, this next session will be three weeks after the last one.

I am currently practising with my mini-disk recorder, a mixer and a blumlein pair of microphones in order to record a session for the benefit of Jacqui and Kendall. So far, so good - but, then I will need to transfer the result to a CD. I know it's theoretically possible, but haven't succeeded yet!

Alan

Yes Alan I was a bit confused, but then I had not met you all when the much missed Jacqui initiated these sessions......actually I'm often confused for various reasons ....beg forgiveness.

Jacqui sent me some very rude jokes today. Blush.

So why are Wednesdays so folk-heavy in the Herts/Beds region? Nothing good on telly? Maybe I can make Barton on our Wednesdays orf.

The sixth Wednesday in the month always falls on the 12th of never.

The third Wednesday of the month used to be Bank of England reporting day when I worked in a Bank.

Sheffield Wednesday is the only football team named for a day of the week.

Paul Simon wrote a song called "Wednesday Morning 3am" which was the title of one of his early albums.

"Wednesday's child is full of woe!" - Nonsense, I was born on a Wednesday!

Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is the first Wenesday after Quinquagesima Sunday.

Wednesday in German is Mittwoch - literally "mid week"

In Latin, Wednesday was DIES MERCURII, which became the French Mercredi...

Nowadays, the best place to enjoy a civilised session on a Wednesday evening is at Chauncy Court, Hertford - see you there?

Alan

Fine session - big on quality rather than quantity of attendees!

Jacques Brel, Berthold Brecht, Rudyard Kipling songs (among others)were sung, but no ABBA - Breezy wasn't there! There was also some fine fluting from Eleanor and Hertford Alan.

New arrangements pending, but next session will be at Chauncy Court on 27th April.

Watch this space.

Alan

PS The number for Spotlight is 20050612@1930. Lanfranc Live (but partially armless).

We have had the offer of licenced premises, and must decide how often we will meet.

The new venue is the Hertford Club, a fine old riverside building bearing some marks of a WW1 Zeppelin attack.
I think 25th May is still at Carol's

From a purely selfish point of view, weekly would be tricky to maintain.

Fortnightly, either 1+3 or, preferably, 2+4, is my favoured frequency. (1+3 I have Blackmore on a Monday, and cannot always get out two evenings a week.)

Hertford Club sounds good as a venue.

Over to others, I'm flexible, and not essential!

Questions questions.

Is there any risk that Thatcherite lightning will smite an old hippy liberal in the Club formerly known as Conservative?

If there is a portrait of Thatcher in sight, is one permitted to turn it to the wall? Or use it as a dart board?

We have to know!!

Oh, and there's a session at the Hertford Club at 8:30 tonight (Wednesday 10th August) - we won't be there, as we'll be at Storbans to see Alaska Mike if we get back in time.

Hi Keith
We missed you last night - the Hertford Club at the Bull Plain place IS the second Weds each month... Term is so fierce this year that time gets scrambled. I finally crawled into the club last night after a vile day trying to teach clay sculpture to 94 students and promptly broke my string. Fortunately Alan had a spare. Carol's next soiree in 2 weeks then....

I will not be there Wednesday next, I'll be in France reminding them of Trafalgar!

Next Hertford Club Session 9th November - time for some tardy guitar fireworks from Eleanor. I've invited a chap called Colin to join us. Can't be bad, he plays Gordon Giltrap material on a Fylde Caliban!

Au reservoir

Alan

Hi all and Many Thanks for the invite Alan, although, I'm not very good at all to be honest, (I have written a passable catchy little tune in a DADGAD tuning however, but I don't think that counts) I only just started learning a few months ago to be honest, but I'm hooked! The Fylde used to be my younger brother's who has now passed it on to me (on the understanding that I pay for the re-fret, (a guy called Roger Williams is currently doing it for me) I got into Gordon Giltrap stuff (through my brother, again) at the same time as I got the guitar, straight away I thought, "I have to learn this wonderful stuff!" I have now mastered 'Beachcomber' and Gordon kindly sent me the Tab for 'On Camber Sands' which I'm currently working and shredding my fingers on, (having NO digi delay unit does hamper things a little though as it was written for one). I hope to come to the 9/11 evening but I think I'll wait until I'm more proficient with the guitar before I bring it along to a meeting. cdshuk@yahoo.co.uk

Hi Colin, Yes do come and do not be shy I'd love to hear/see your gee-tar. I don't know any Gordon Giltrap so it will all be news to me .Yes Dadgad counts - where would we be without it. Come on the 26 Oct to Carol's if you like,

Alan have a good time in France - Cheshunt expects every man to do his duty there. By the way what's with "tardy"? You want I should play faster, sooner, earlier. or more in time?

I look forward to meeting you all.

PS. where abouts in Hertford is the 9th Nov. meeting?

Bull Plain is farther west than Chauncy Court, the Hertford Club is located where Bull Plain intersects with the river - see Bull Plain on Streetmap

OK, Thanks, my Wife has an Idea where that may be (I can't drive!), not sure what is expected at these meetings, I've only just started learning, but I'll bring my Guitar and maybe someone else can knock a tune out of it much better than I can,,thats a point, I hope beginners are welcome.

PS. I can't seem to access MUDCAT most of the time now, it's become pot luck if it downloads or not these days!
