Subject: Round the House invite to PA and NJ catters
From: azfiddle
Date: 15 May 08 - 11:44 PM

Hello mudcatters-

Just wanted to let you know that our band, Round the House, is touring through the PA and NJ in mid-June. It would be great to cross paths with some fellow musicians while we are on the road, so we thought we would post to mudcat. Of course, if you want to bring any of your friends along for lively and engaging Irish songs and tunes, we'd love to meet them too!

We are starting out in Pittsburgh (June 13th), passing through Harrisburg to Princeton NJ and then doing a bit of hop scotch between the Harrisburg/York areas and Philadelphia until we fly home on the 22nd. More info on our web site: www.roundthehouse.com
http://www.roundthehouse.com/, but here is the jist of it.

June 13 - Pittsburgh contra dance
June 14 -Pittsburgh,Claddah pub
June 15 -workshops and house concert
June 16 -Harrisburg Unitarian Church concert
June 17 - Princeton Looking Glass Pond concert
June 18 - Princeton contra dance
June 19 - Box Lunch Revue (York) and Philly (Glenside) contra dance
Jun 20 - O'Reilly Pub in Harrisburg
June 21 - Penn Mar Irish fest (Shrewsbury) and Marshalton Inn (West Chester)

We've played at the North Texas Irish Festival (twice!) and lots of venues throughout the southwest, but this is our first venture east of the Mississippi.

See you on the fun way!
Sharon and Claire

Dang! Do you ever make it to the western slope of Colorado? I'd love to hear you live if so. Have fun out East!

We went to the Durango Meltdown a few years ago, and we would happily arrange a stop at the Four Corners Festival if they'd ask us.....
Do you have any connections there?

Sharon

I wish. I love that area. My sisters went to college in Durango. We are several hours north of there in the Grand Valley...there are some really nice venues here, though, including KAFM Radio's "Radio Room," the Avalon Theatre and Mesa Theatre. We do have a college crowd here which helps to support music. There's a contra group which gets together and has an Irish band which plays for them. Paonia is another good place, as well as other areas on the Western Slope.

I am really enjoying listening to your myspace listings. Thanks!

We have a friend up there, Robert who plays guitar. Do you know him? We also toured on the east side of the rockies last year and played with some great folks. How long a drive is it from Grand Valley to Boulder - maybe we could work something out. Next winter, we are hoping to reschedule our Bay area tour (cancelled from last Feb), but we haven't firmed it up yet.

Between the demands of our jobs and having families, it can be pretty tough to set up tours unless we have a local contact, so if you could help us on your end, there is a much better chance of it happening.

cheers,
Claire

azfiddle, best wishes on your tour!

Where in Pittsburgh is the Claddah pub?

To save on confusion: that's the Grand Valley as in we are in it, near the town of Grand Junction, so named for the Colorado and Gunnison rivers which meet here and for the former name of the Colorado river, "Grand."):-) There used to be a small town named that, up the river (CO)in Debeque Canyon, but they renamed it "Parachute." Not sure why.:-)

From Boulder to Grand Junction is about a 4.5-5 hours drive depending on the traffic, time of the week, etc. as you have to go over the Rockies, through the tunnel. Might not be worth it, unless you could pick up gigs elsewhere along the way, such as Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Carbondale, Mesa, Rifle, and New Castle. I don't have any contacts, sorry. I have not been out in the community much for the past few years, just starting to get my feet wet again. Never was out there as a performer, strictly amateur, but do love it. We could certainly use a good Irish band around here, esp. near March 17th!

Best I could do, at the moment, is get you contact names, addys, and numbers, if that would help any. I know it takes a lot of work. I used to do some for my brother when he was performing his own classical works (now that is an even tougher one to break into!:-)

Have fun, anyway!

kat
