I play this using the usual suspects I, IV, and V. If I may suggest it, listen to a recording and try on your own to match up the changes you hear with those three chords, once you determine what key it is in. Doing so wills trengthen your ear and your intuition, and free your talent accordingly.

In D, the chords are D, G and A (or A7). In C they are C, F and G. Use a capo if necessary to match the pitch of the recording.

In general, I think a remark like Amos just made could be a bit condescending to new comers. But in this case, it is far from it, it seems to me the beginning of wisdom. The harmonic(chordal) structure of this song is so basic, so central to the whole system of northern European and American folk, that anybody should try to figure this out for themselves, even if it's hard work. Because when you succeed you will have bonded with the song, and you'll be up and running. Whereas our just listing the chords for you will be no help at all. Amos has told you the basics. Go to it, you'll love it.

Woody may have sung this song, but i think he did not compose it..
i think it is traditional and was around long before Woody arrived on the scene...

the song who is gona shoe your pritty little feet was not writen by woody guthrie at all. its roots go back to a scottish song writen in the 18th century thats gaelic . there have been other songs using the same tune and often having similar meanings thanks from joe.

In The Incompleat Folksinger Pete Seeger told of asking his father, musicologist Charles Seeger, about Woody's "borrowing" and the elder Seeger responded "Plagiarism is basic to all culture", if I remember correctly.

There was a lovely Topic LP of the same title in the 60s by Tom Paley & Peggy Seeger- IO reckon Woody 'set' various versions & made it his own, rather than being the originator of the song
